They never even mentioned chemo. In 2001, he had melanoma removed from the side of his face and had to have a skin graft. He was fine for 6 years, then had a spot show up on his lung. They biopsied it, and said it was melanoma. So at that point the cancer had broken the blood barrier and gone inside his body instead of exterior. They never even mentioned the word chemo to us, and we were so stupidly relieved it wasn't lung cancer (he had smoked for years, though he stopped in the 80s) that we didn't know that he probably should have had chemo. Within 18 months his body was absolutely ravaged with tumors, in his brain, lungs, and kidneys. All melanoma. In another 18 months he was dead, after trying all sorts of chemotherapy and radiation that didn't help.

This was a top tier university hospital, too. Still no idea why they didn't even mention chemo.
