Twice in the last week, I've heard news anchors talking about the Opening Ceremonies for the Paris Olympics. They mentioned boats on the River Seine, but pronounced it "seen". I was like, what? Are you kidding?
The first one was LA local news, so I figured ok, it's not like it's national news. But no - a couple of days later, ABC network news, pronounced it the same incorrect way.
Reminds me of a joke on "Murphy Brown", where Corky asks Murphy how to pronounce a word. Murphy looks at it and says "SHEE-ites", where Corky says "I'm glad I asked".
Don't these anchors ever read the copy beforehand, and if you're not sure how to pronounce something - ASK SOMEBODY?
Off the soapbox for now. I'm sure I'll hear "seen" again, at least one more time today...
