There’s a whole LOT of exposition about the surroundings. I actually thought about you as I was reading it and thought, “Yeah, this is a lot!” And I normally like that stuff. It is probably the difference between doing it and doing it exceptionally well. When it’s done exceptionally well, you can feel the place.
I did a terrible job describing this book. I left out the crucial fact that this family believe they are cursed, and there is seemingly evidence to bear that out. I know you know, just saying for anyone else who might care.
I haven’t read Cutting for Stone. I’ve considered it and rejected it repeatedly, and I’m not even sure why. Now that I’m a bit more familiar with Verghese’s writing style, I am more motivated to give it a try.
