From what I understand, the only similarity between Andy Griffith's show Matlock and Kathy Bates's show Matlock is the name...and apparently there was a quip in the premiere about KB's character being "Matlock, like the old show". IMO, if you're going to reuse the name, at least make the show either a total reboot of the original (set in the same town, same characters, same circumstances, etc.) or make it a continuation of the original show, either with the same characters only older or the children of the original characters. Otherwise it just feels like a cheap gimmick to get OG fans to watch, and that ain't cool.
