bartended tonight at a really cool spot (ironically in the same town I work in) that has Jazz Mondays. No cover charge but a limited menu of apps and a few desserts. I felt really bad for the jazz duo performing tonight; they were really, really great but a) turnout was abysmal (probably because of the Guardians' game) to the point where there were only four of us--not counting staff--who were there through the entire performance and b) they were a last minute fill-in for another performer who got COVID over the weekend. You wouldn't have been able to tell...much...that this was a last minute gig. The music was darn near perfect but there were a few discussions over the set list.
Something I thought was really sweet...my nephew may or may not be working at the same place right now. He used to host and bartend there, which is how my niece got hired, but Nephew is trying to get out of the restaurant business altogether and is concentrating on making a living giving music lessons, playing organ and piano for a local church on Sundays and being available for private gigs. I think Nephew still does the occasional Jazz Monday (playing keyboard) but I think he's done bartending and hosting there...anyways, he popped in briefly tonight after giving lessons just up the street. He stayed only long enough to say hi and then hug everyone goodbye while wishing Sis and BIL safe travels...and then on the way out, he and Niece agreed to cover my "tab" and some of Sis and BIL's. Sis and BIL had three alcoholic drinks each, plus BIL had a slice of lemon pie; I had a hot cider (it's CHILLY here today!) and a blueberry crepe. I thought that was very kind of Niece and Nephew to pay for part of the evening out.
If we keep playing the way we are, I'm not sure I wouldn't have preferred being out all evening...
