This morning started with my daughter coming out of the house while I was de-pooping the yard before the guys arrived for work to let me know that the contractor was at the front door. Huh?

He was there a few minutes ahead of the...electricians...and the plumber. SURPRISE!!

I'd met the electrician and his helper weeks earlier and we'd discussed the general concept. Today was the detailed placement, fleshing out the concept...or so I thought. I checked my phone after the electrician, contractor, and I had gone over switch, can light, exterior light, socket, and other electrical item locations. I added a few additional outlets, including two exterior outlets, now have the can lights in the ceiling on two different switches so they can be light up each half the room or all of the room, have outlets above the future counters, an outlet where the Christmas tree will probably be in the future, and an odd wire that can be spliced to run power to the shed.

After a lot of pointing and discussing, deciding, second guessing, then sticking to the answers, I checked my phone and saw that I was going to be late for mass. I raced to get ready and...was late for mass. Mass was followed by praying a rosary for a family's funeral, then a meeting at a different location (usually on the church campus/in the parish hall) because of the setup for the annual bazaar. After the meeting, we had a farewell gathering for one of our members who will be leaving the area soon.

I was out and about for about four hours. When I got home, I was surprised to see the electrician and helper still at the house with most of the wiring for the room done. The patio door was open. I was concerned because I didn't know where the two dogs were. (My daughter had put them in their kennel.) I let them out for a break while the electrician finished the light switch on the wall on my side of the new addition, so the dogs could roam around inside the house.

The electrician said that they'd be back tomorrow to finish off the wiring. We can't install anything until the wiring and everything else passes inspection, probably in a week or two. I'm getting a subpanel for the space.

The plumber...I can't explain. The commode is still in the bathtub. There's a cap on the opening for the toilet with a line running to it connected through the hole in the wall for the washing machine and potential sink. Much of the trench has been filled, but no cement. Not sure if it has to be inspected before it can be closed and tiled over. I saw that they'd broken part of the tile that was used for the baseboard. I'll see if I have more in my pile of tiles in the backyard. I probably only need one full tile.

Serious progress. Since they won't install the lights and such (I'd offered to bring out the ceiling fan and light kit) until the inspection, I don't feel a serious rush to get some items for the new space. That means that I can't order some things that are on sale. A furniture store is going out of business and prices are greatly reduced, but I don't want to pay to store furniture. That might eat up the savings. So I'm waiting to order some things.

Hectic, thrilling, successful day.
