There's one place I like that has a number of specialty pizzas on their menu (for Pizza Week a couple years ago, I got their mashed potato pizza; it sounds a little gross but it was really good!) but also does wings, sandwiches and a large number of fried appetizers.
I wonder why more pizza places don't participate. It's a good way to get new customers to check out your restaurant. I also wonder why some places do a specialty pizza during Pizza Week but don't have it on the regular menu otherwise. One place downtown that I considered is doing a "chili dog pizza"* but they're actually a somewhat upscale Italian restaurant, and chili dog pizza is not on the usual menu.
* I'm wondering if their chef is a former co-worker of mine. I highly doubt it but...I remember talking one night to "El Viejo" and listening to him brag about buying a pizza oven. I told him most pizza places have the same pizzas, just slightly different ingredients sometimes and different names. I told him I always wanted someone to invent a chili dog pizza: a cornbread crust smothered in chili sauce and topped with slices of hot dog. He poo-pooed the idea...and yet here this place is, offering chili dog pizza. El Viejo used to brag about being a chef at several different restaurants (if he was such a great chef, why was he working at a place that made water softeners?)...maybe he's now at this fancy Italian place downtown?
