FINALLY, someone came to do some work at the house. The guy worked on my doors. He didn't understand why one door needed to be changed and was thinking about trying to adjust the door instead of putting on the new door that was in the company van he was driving. I explained that the current door is made of the wrong material (metal instead of fiberglass - he ran his hand down the doors and said they felt the same to him), they didn't match in color (he tilted his head to the side), and the door doesn't close (That made him decide that the door probably needed to be changed...like he was sent to do. I went into the kitchen and got out a can opener that I have attached to the side of the refrigerator with a magnet and showed him, by placing the can opener on both doors, that they weren't the same.
Well, he fixed both doors. I don't have to pull and tug to get one door open and the other door that didn't close now does. He left around 2:00 and I shut the gates.
The guy who prepared the plans for the room and signed the contract, had come this morning. He tried to shift any blame for delays or changes to the completion date (they're supposed to be done by mid-February) since they'd hoped to get it done by Christmas but obviously missed the mark on me because I asked about a patio. The room needs to have something outside by the doors. I'm waiting for a call from the person I want to do my landscaping and may call another contractor, my regular one.
I asked if they could just put in the required stoop to have it pass inspection, then I could worry about the patio later. He looked confused. (I'm about tired of them and want to end my relationship by washing my hands of the project with an "OK" from the City. I'm not using them in the future.) He seemed to think that the patio/cement piece is the last thing.
I raised the issue of the lights which no longer go full disco, but can't have the new switches that I'd always said I wanted (a switch with a dimmer that you can set to your favorite level of brightness and a remote). The guy doing the doors had said that he couldn't install the switch because it's a four-way switch. That was verified by their electrician. Now, we're looking at getting them at a box store...just ordered four of them. They'll be here on January 2. They'll have to be programmed, but once you've figured out one, the rest should be easy.
The contractor still needs to install the new switch on the wall. Not sure when that will happen, but I don't want to be the hitch in the git along.
Oh, I ordered the Muddy Mats(?) I've seen on my YouTube feeds and other odd places. In theory, they'll help keep some of the dust/dirt down. Mats are about the only things we've moved into the room because...the dogs.
We should move into the space in January, if all goes well. Great thing for a new year. At least the dogs can let themselves out now.
No major New Years plans, but it's nice having an enclosed space going forward.
Happy New Year to all!
