When I was 12, I switched schools and school board and there were a few things in the math that we hadn't covered at my old school. I went to visit the school on my first PA day and this came up with my old teacher. When my mom came to pick me up, he mentioned it to her and, as he lived close by, he offered to come over and do a tutoring session so I could catch up. My mom agreed and invited him for dinner as a thank you.
I vividly remember the night of that dinner. He went into the dining room, which was also where the record player was. After looking at what records were out, he came into the kitchen and said "I see you like Marianne Faithful."
My mother said, "I LOVE Marianne Faithful."
I absolutely froze because in that moment I just KNEW what was going to happen next.
Nearly 40 years later now -- when I talk about this teacher these days, I refer to him as my stepfather.
Anyway. Sort of your fault, Marianne! We wouldn't have had it any other way, though.
