wrong. On the Mexican island where I go as often as I can, golf carts are the main means of transportation for a lot of people. There are taxis but few other cars. And there are Vespa-like scooters. And regular bikes. If the Mexican police catch you driving a golf cart while intoxicated, you are in for a world of expensive trouble. But some people still do it.
And to be fair to the likely intoxicated driver in Elway’s case, riding on the back seat of a golf cart while drunk, especially if that seat is facing backwards, is dangerous too. Hit a bad bump and you can fall right off that back seat.
We talk a lot about driving cars while impaired but, here in NYC, we also have too many people who ride regular and electric bikes home from bars. And boats. People shouldn’t drink while driving a boat. But they do.
In Elway and his friends case, they can well afford taxis and Ubers. That should be the default mode of transportation when you want to drink. I have nothing against drinking. I love my wine and margaritas. But I never drink and drive anything.
