with my bff at a local(ish) Chinese buffet. Their motto should be "Our food isn't great but we sure have a lot of it!". Which honestly, I'd rather have a dozen bites of good (enough) different foods than a single plate of one great food...but I digress. I'd told Dad about our lunch plan and when I was getting dressed, he took the dry erase board that hangs on the fridge and is used to leave messages for one another, set it on the table, wrote "take 2 Broke Girls to lunch" and put $30 under the sign. How sweet is that? Many people say their dad is the #1 dad...I'm one of them. If he's not the best dad that ever, uh, "dadded", then he's definitely in the top 10. Bff was especially appreciative since she's a) living (tiny) paycheck to (tiny) paycheck and b) about 90% certain she's adopting Ginger, the 12 year old goldendoodle with ongoing medical issues and high medical bills to match.
We spent almost 3 hours at the buffet, mostly just laughing and having a good time. At one point, an elderly couple sat in the booth behind bff; I could see them but she couldn't. Just before we left, bff excused herself to use the restroom; when she returned, I did the same. We left almost immediately upon my return...outside the restaurant, bff asked me if I'd noticed the elderly couple sitting behind her. I said yes; she told me while I was in the bathroom, she heard the elderly man ask the elderly woman "You know that commercial with the two old ladies laughing? The women in the booth behind me kind of remind me of them".
Commercial:
As I like that commercial, I'm going to take that as a compliment. I don't think bff and I are quite THAT loud but we do laugh a lot when we're together.
After lunch, we went to Pet Smart next to the restaurant. While we were inside, the skies open and rain fell in an almost literal sheet of water. It was raining so hard, it woke up all the kitties in the adoption area (which made me happy--I got a much better view of their beautiful eyes and adorable faces). It was raining so hard, people--including the store workers--were standing at the front of the store watching the rain fall. It was raining so hard it...left about an inch of standing water in the cupholder in my car's center console. Yep, someone forgot to put her windows up (they were all down about 3") and now the interior of my car is absolutely soaked. Luckily I had a towel in the trunk so I didn't have to sit on a wet seat but I *did* have to wipe down the entire inside of my car when I got home.
It was a great afternoon...😀
