It just got seven Tony nominations this morning. I took her to Hell’s Kitchen (which we both really enjoyed) on Tuesday for her birthday and now she’s taking me to Sunset Boulevard as an early birthday gift (my bday is June 8, hers was April 17). To make things even weirder, these two shows are in theaters on the same block almost across the street from each other. When we came out of Hell’s Kitchen Tuesday night, we heard the screams/applause at Sunset’s stage door. Nicole Scherzinger just got a Best Lead Actress in a Musical Tony nom and Glenn Close showed up to watch the show Tuesday night. So I guess the excitement over there was seeing both of them.
Who knew that we could be so lucky at theater lotteries?!? We both just started entering them recently. I always thought of the lotteries as real long shots. Plus there is no planning ahead. You win for next day, which is, at least, better than same day. LOL, we both said that we’re going to have to stop entering the lotteries so often so we can space out our theatre going better. At least I only have two Broadway shows this week. My sis also has an Off-Broadway show tonight.
And then….a friend called to tell us that she is in an Off-Off Broadway play in a small East Village theater about artist Marc Chagall. So, we’re going to that, probably next week. That one is only $15. We have to fit it in before leaving for Mexico on May 20.
When it rains, it pours. I feel like the universe is singing 🎵 Come to the Cabaret 🎵 to me. Theatre really is a good de-stressor in stressful times. But I have to find less expensive ways to go. And the universe is raining deeply discounted tix right now.
I am such a lucky duck this week.
