a Thai restaurant. Yep, a Thai restaurant. It's the one in town, and apparently it's owned by a husband and wife team. The husband was born in Mexico; apparently a lot of the regulars asked the couple if they'd ever open a Mexican restaurant or a food truck that served Mexican food. They haven't, but for the last three years, they've featured a special menu on Cinco de Mayo consisting of "Mexican street food". Auntie got steak tacos, I got a steak quesadilla and we split a piece of tres leches cake and a piece of flan. Everything was delicious!
Weirdly, my small, very white, semi-rural town has not one, not two but three Mexican restaurants. I've yet to try the one--it recently opened in a space that was previously a, yes, Mexican restaurant (I'm thinking maybe same owners, new name?)--but the other two--a taqueria and a sit down Mexican restaurant that's a cut above the usual cookie cutter Mexican restaurants in my area--are both quite good. I enjoyed the menu today but I hope the Thai place remains a Thai place because their pad Thai is the best I've ever had.
