This is your "feel good" story of the day, but I have to preface it with some less "feel good" stuff...

I don't have a set schedule at work but my store manager always schedules me for the Tuesday morning shift, mainly because she has a weekly conference call Tuesday mornings 30 minutes before the store opens and there's certain stuff that needs to be done that she then doesn't have time to do but I *can* do. Generally, I dislike working Tuesday mornings because for some reason, SM wants me to come in at 9:00 AM instead of 9:30 AM, and there's really no point to being there a full hour before the store is open, especially since customers rarely show up any earlier than 11:00 and often not until noon or even later. Also, SM haaaaaaates the conference calls, and she haaaaaaates a slow work day with few customers, and Tuesday is usually a slow work day, so SM is usually in an even more foul mood on Tuesdays than usual. Oh, and she took a spill last Wednesday on her day off and gave herself a pretty serious head injury which did her mood no favors and...it's a long story. If you want to know more, just let me know.

Anyways, our first customer of the day was a lovely woman a bit younger than me who came in around 10:30 AM. She was just browsing but she wound up ordering a top that was on sale but not in her size. We had a really nice time chatting, mostly about taking care of elderly parents (her MIL, my dad, though Dad doesn't really need a lot of taking care of at the moment) and a little about religion (which is usually off limits but *she* brought it up and nobody else was in the store, plus we kept the conversation focused on God and doing good works rather than any specific doctrine). The customer had come into the store with a cup of coffee from the (really good) coffeehouse next door; I told her it smelled wonderful. She mentioned that their special of the day was a London Fog and then asked me if I knew what that was. I told her it was earl grey tea, steamed milk and a touch of vanilla, plus sometimes a bit of sweetener. I also told her I just discovered London Fogs (and lavender London Fogs) and really, really enjoy them. I finished ringing up the purchase and bid my customer a good day.

10 minutes later, she walks back in with two London Fogs in her hand--the large size--and hands me one with a smile before walking back out. How sweet is that? We've had customers before that have given us boxes of pastries to share, and a few weeks ago, a woman came in with a bag of apples for everyone (my co-workers said this customer does this fairly frequently and they declared them "the best apple you'll ever have"...I didn't actually care for them). But this was the first time I was the sole recipient of a treat 😄
