Now that I'm a keyholder and making a teeny bit more money (and I do mean "teeny"), I have a teeny bit more disposable income. In the past, I liked to go get a professional pedicure at the end of spring, mid-summer and the end of summer, but the last two years, I've done only the pre-summer pedicure and painted my toenails myself after that (I don't bother at all during the late fall/winter/early spring, only making the effort to keep my toenails trimmed). Usually bff and I go for pedicures at a place in Mentor that we both really like but these days, she's barely paying the bills, so she regretfully turned down an offer to get a pedicure with me. Since she wasn't joining me, and since "our" place raised its prices again, I did some shopping around and--shockingly--found a place just a 2 minute walk from my workplace that was actually a good deal cheaper than our place (our place isn't terribly expensive but it's now more than I wish to pay). I called Tuesday night thinking no way would they have an opening any time soon...they asked if I could come in today at 3:00. That was actually perfect; I had the early shift today and got off at 2:30. I didn't even need to move my car <g>.

I will say this...my experience today was not quite as good as previous experiences at the salon in Mentor. There were fewer colors to choose from (though to be fair, the Mentor salon has a rack of colors that's about 4' long and 3' wide, so they have pretty much ALL the colors), the space wasn't quite as relaxing (the Mentor salon has a blue sky with fluffy clouds painted on the ceiling and soothing music is piped in), nobody showed me how to use the massage chair and, worst of all, the water I was soaking my feet in was lukewarm at best. And possibly a little colder...today, the high was 50° (I literally could see my breath) and it was drizzling all day long, so my feet were COLD, which would've made the water seem even warmer than it was. BUT...the nail tech was super nice, she did a great job, and best of all, I saved about $20. For $20, I can live with a boring ceiling, a silent space and no vibrating chair 😁

Oh, and having fewer color choices made selection a bit easier. Almost every time I get a pedicure, I go in thinking I'm going to go with a certain hue and then change my mind while contemplating the "wall of color". Today I was thinking I wanted white toenails--I'm seeing white on so many ladies right now--and I left with a beautiful silvery-white shade the tech actually picked out. I told her I didn't want anything TOO white--I didn't want it to look like I had Liquid Paper on my toenails--and she chose something juuuuuust a bit closer to ecru and recommended a sort of silvery-glittery (but not too glittery) top coat.

Unless I hit the lottery or am gifted a gift card (or somehow manage to secure a better job before the end of summer), I likely won't be going back to any salon for another pedicure until next year. But come this time in 2026, I might go back to the salon I was at today.
