and which direction it was moving in. Maybe the storm spent itself before it got to you. At any rate, pop up thunderstorms in this kind of midsummer heat can be unpredictable. I’ve been on beaches when thunderstorms popped up fast with not much warning and it is scary to get caught in that situation.. You do not want to be on that sand when a thunderstorm hits. A lot of people know to get out of the water but don’t realize the sand can be a good conductor of electricity and is unsafe too. Even before the sand gets wet from rain, there is often an underlying layer of wet sand connected to the lake/ocean that the sun dried sand sits on top of. I think the lifeguards did the right thing by erring on the side of caution. Lately, for some reason, more people have been getting hit by lightening.

Seven flights of stairs down to the beach is a lot of stairs. But, at least, the park isn’t likely to get flooded.
