treated to another "show".
I knew I'd be getting up somewhere around the recommended time to feed the spoiled felines.
At 5 AM, I went outside with my binoculars. I had thought I might drive to a nearby street that has less lighting, but I was too tired and lazy.
I went outside and saw the Venus/Jupiter conjunction in the east, and Saturn in the SW. Neptune and Uranus were also up, but I didn't even bother looking for them because it was also a full moon, and while I have made out Uranus with the naked eye (it's green), Neptune is too far away and is now in conjunction with Saturn, so fuggedabout.
Mercury was also a bust. Mercury was just rising according to my apps, so fuggedabout that too. Seeing Mercury from here requires a whole lot of patience and being in the right spot because it's so low in the sky. I have seen it about 5 times when it's up right after sunset. Sunday, I was too tired and lazy.
Thinking I plan more thoughtfully around the time of a new moon in two weeks (the planetary parade can be seen most of the rest of this month).
Either way, I'm standing there on Quay Court, by our park, and what do I hear? CATS. Yowling and hissing and all the things they do when they are doing *that*.
Now, that? Was so cute and funny. Last time I heard a chorus like that was when I lived in a dorm in Paris, near a park, summer 1985. And dang, they went on ALL night. French kitties, I guess. Here, I had never been out that long at 5 AM (usually to get into my car for a long trip to the Bay Area or to go to the airport), so I never heard them.
Anyhoo, I got a good picture of Venus and Jupiter in conjunction, and next to Betegeuse (!) and was amused by the howls and screeches of cats making babies, and I'm happy.
