I had no idea. In a nutshell, Tim stood up to Miramax (Harvey Weinstein) regarding the contracts the contestants were given to sign which were, to say the least, not in their best interest to sign.

For example, there was a clause in the S1 winner’s contract that said he would owe 15% of his earning forever (!) and not limited to earnings from fashion design. Fifteen percent of his earnings for life! Tim went over every word of that contact with that contestant and advised him not to sign it. Tim fought with Miramax/Weinstein over the years about unfair clauses in these contracts that had these young designers signing over their intellectual property to Weinstein until eventually Tim left the show over this issue.

It sounds like Tim was a true mentor/teacher to these young designers and was willing to put himself on the line to go to bat for them and Weinstein was the real $&#%*€! that we all now know he is.

Personally, I got a little tired of Tim’s schtick but, if the above is true, I have newfound major respect for the man. A true teacher, really looking out for his students.
