a fashion statement or when time was SUPER important to what I was doing (going to see some kind of show, concert or sporting event, for example). Now I rely on my phone, my laptop, the clock in my car and my innate sense of time* to know what time it is.
* I once really impressed--and slightly freaked out--my bff...we had just finished getting pedicures and she asked me if I knew the time. I wasn't wearing a watch (she was--she wore watches long after the rest of us gave them up) and there was no clock in the salon that we could see at that moment but I still told her 5:28. She checked her watch...it was exactly 5:28. I'm often able to guess the time within a minute or two--it's like some kind of superpower <g>.
