News for the week of 07-Nov-2011

by Carol Banks Weber

OLTL/AMC creator Agnes Nixon will return to the set November 17th to play herself, sort of. Nixon’s own name was changed slightly for her character, Agnes Dixon. And her job was adjusted for the screen as creator of the 1980s OLTL soap within a soap, Fraternity Row (they’re bringing that back). Expect to see tabloid reporter Blanca Morales shoving a mic up Nixon’s face the week of January 8th. Nixon previously appeared on OLTL in 2008 as a guest star, playing G-d meeting Viki up in heaven.

Prospect Park execs approached and received the okay from Tuc Watkins (David), Florencia Lozano (Téa), Shenell Edmonds (Destiny), and Josh Kelly (Cutter) to continue on with the soap in January’s online series.

As for OLTL still going on right now, on ABC Daytime, look for more fan favorites and blasts from the past, including Susan Batten (ex-Luna) and Jessica Tuck (ex-Megan).

Brandon Buddy (Cole) got his fondest wish (he’d been tweeting up a storm a few weeks ago, asking to be brought back on OLTL), but apparently didn’t last longer than one day of taping before he had to be recast. Nobody’s talking about why, other than Van Hughes (ex-Ulrich) is now taking over, it killed TPTB to do this, and by this, Hughes will have to film Cole’s return all over.

Amanda Setton (Kim) booked a Nora and Delia Ephron Off-Broadway play, Love, Loss, And What I Wore, based on the Ilene Beckerman memoir. Setton will perform her part in the play alongside a rotating cast that includes Eve Plumb (The Brady Bunch), Jenny Allen (I Got Sick Then I Got Better), and Maddie Corman (Smash), among others, in the Westside Theater, through December 4.

A rumormonger on Twitternamed Bravo Maxine, a self-confessed Bravoemployee, last week tweeted that OLTL and AMC were picked up by the cable network to premiere in February, in their ABC Daytime time slots, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., ET. Bravo Maxine then added Susan Lucci (Erica) had a great deal to do with it, and Bravo may give her her own reality talk show.

Theater sensation Van Hughes (American Idiot, 9 To 5 The Musical, Hairspray) and soap familiar (OLTL, ATWT) was asked to step in quickly to resume the return of Cole when original portrayer, Brandon Buddy, couldn’t continue filming after one day. Speculation from fans included mention of a car accident somewhere in Texas, hitting a person with the car, possibly a DUI hearing conflicting with the shoot. Additionally, TPTB toyed with the idea of just dropping Cole’s return. A short deadline, amidst a looming cancellation schedule, dictated they continue on with a recast. It has been reported that Cole’s return is essential to writing Starr off for the soap’s TV end. Maybe Cole returns to get Starr and Hope, so they can move away and live happily ever after.

There’s been talk online of Judith Light reprising her amazing role as Karen Wolek. But it turns out the talk is just wishful talk. She won’t do it. Despite kind words about OLTL, reports say she kept saying no.
