News for the week of 12-Nov-2007

by Carol Banks Weber

It’s official, according to the latest report from SoapOperaDigest online. Nathaniel Marston (Michael; ex-Al) was let go from OLTL. This announcement—made on November 9—from ABC Daytime followed the actor’s October 20th arrest for assault and battery and October 23rd-dated reports in the press of the actor claiming his innocence. The official statement released by the daytime network reads as follows: “Nathaniel Marston has been a valuable member of the cast of ONE LIFE TO LIVE bringing Michael McBain to life for legions of fans. He leaves the show with our sincere appreciation for his many contributions and our support as he addresses personal challenges. We wish him well.”

Bree Williamson (Jessica) and Kathy Brier (Marcie) re-signed to stay on OLTL, decimating rumors of their characters’ exits.

Robin Strasser (Dorian) joins Jacob Young (JR, AMC) and other daytime stars this week on the syndicated game show called Wheel Of Fortune—for Celebrity Week.

Melissa Gallo (Adriana) swears by a little dab (make that two spritzes) of Sexy Hair’s Big Shine, it’s what the hair department at OLTL uses on her. Soya Want Flat Hair flatiron spray is great too, she said.

Brandon Buddy (Cole) is a real gentleman when it comes to his expectations of the ideal girlfriend. It grosses him out when a girl just passes gas loudly in public or blows her nose at the dinner table at a restaurant with him. No, his ideal girlfriend will make him laugh, is up to any adventure including skydiving at a moment’s notice (“where you really see her true colors [laughs]”) and doesn’t enjoy shopping for over an hour at a time. Buddy himself claims he can be too analytical and overthink things, but overall, he thinks he has a healthy sense of humor and he’s laid-back. But he’s young, with only one nine-month relationship that’s lasted the longest under his belt. –Soap Opera Digest, “Single File,” November 13, 2007

Gossip for the week of 12-Nov-2007

Soap columnist Jeremy in Chicago over at Llan-VIEW/SoapTown USA mused in the middle of his column (read on November 6th) that Nathaniel Marston’s (Michael) case might’ve been “thrown out of court” and Marston more than likely reinstated to OLTL. As you have read over at SOD.com and higher up in this news section, that’s not true. What is true and cannot be taken away from Marston is his incredibly moving, hard-won, well-earned body of work in soaps.

It’s unlikely that TPTB will let the Martston/Michael matter drop. Rumor has it that they need a recast asap, in view of the ongoing writers’ strike. If they must, how about the actor who originally played Dr. Michael McBain? He was good.

David Fumero (Cristian) might leave OLTL too, after his fiancée Melissa Gallo (Adriana) does, leaving a romantic spot open for Sarah. For a Kellen, perhaps?
