News for the week of 14-Jun-2010

by Carol Banks Weber

Sabine Singh (ex-Greenlee, AMC) returns to OLTL in another bit part. Previously, in 2002, she was a coffee shop waitress. Coming up on June 15th, she’ll be prostitute Wendy joining Fawn, David and Matthew for a lively party.

Farah Fath (Gigi) did much to clear up the misconception that she’s a bitch and was bitchy to former co-star Crystal Hunt (Stacy) in her SoapTown USA interview (read last week) with AMC columnist Amanda. In it, Fath made clear her problems were with the writing of the character of villainess Stacy, not with the portrayer. “I enjoyed the scenes I shared with Crystal. I feel that there were a lot of holes in the story,” Fath explained. “HereStacy comes to Llanview and vows revenge on Gigi for stealing Rex back when they were in high school because she loved him from afar. I mean, Hello?!, they were never an item. Stacy was intended to be this vixen, this evil character with no heart…unfortunately for Crystal, the character and storyline ended up coming across shallow…. I mean she threatened the life of her own nephew and in daytime when you threaten the life of a child it’s hard for a character to be redeemed from that.”

Farah Fath’s (Gigi) real-life honey John-Paul Lavoisier (Rex) re-signed with OLTL for another four years.

We Love Soaps featured a lengthy, multi-part interview with Hillary B. Smith (Nora) last week, where she talks about her career, past and present, characterization, the thing with Bo and Nora, and her tendency to speak up when she feels strongly, which she usually does. She and Nora are similar in that they are very passionate about subjects they care about. Smith told Damon L. Jacobs that passion is what she brings to her longtime OLTL character, while Nora brings a deep, book smart intelligence. “I can certainly scratch my head and make it look like I’m thinking deep thoughts but Nora does think deep thoughts,” Smith described. “She is very driven, probably more so because of the field she is in. She’s a very soulful person. She feels deeply. I don’t think she ever planned on loving as deeply as she did until Bo walked into her life. I think that has defined her life. When he stepped out of her life the void was so huge that she has tried to fill it along the ways with various different things that haven’t worked.”

Scene stealer Sean Ringgold (Shaun) participated in The Smurfs’ new flick—due for a July 29, 2011 release date—as the voice of Bubba. The cast, including Katy Perry, Hank Azaria and Paul Reubens, kicked off filming their voice-overs in March.
