Hayley gets news that her show is about to go national, but the bad news is that she has to move to L.A. When Mateo finds out, he is angry that she was even thinking about it without consulting him! Hayley tells him that she's going to turn it down, even though it's what she's always dreamed of. Mateo, over his initial anger, doesn't want Hayley to give up on her dream, but knowing how important Mateo's family is to him, she doesn't see how they can make this long-distance life-style work out.

Maria, who is excited about remembering her life with Edmund, goes off to meet with her shrink Dr. McMillan. Dr. McMillan tries putting her under hypnosis, but Maria feels discouraged when it isn't working.

A tabloid reporter keeps busy harassing various residents of Pine Valley regarding the revelations at the Charity Ball. First he stops by Brooke's, but she slams the door in his face. Mr. "Yellow Journalism" then pays a visit to Edmund, who also slams the door in his face. Then Edmund makes a bee-line for Brooke's, where he admits he may be to blame for chasing her into Adam's slimy arms. Brooke accuses Edmund of just being jealous, which he no longer has the right to feel. They both admit to making mistakes in their relationship and Edmund gives her a "let's be friends" speech.

Mia wakes up after surgery and Jake informs her that they had to restart her heart. Although she's doing better, she's not out of the woods. Adam wants to know why Liza feels responsible for Mia's fall. When Liza doesn't go into detail, he goes to ask Mia what she remembers about the fall, which isn't much. Adam speculates that she may have jumped, but Jake comes in and tells Adam that Mia was happy about their engagement when she fell.

Liza confesses to Marian that she only went over to Mia to talk to her, and when she tried to get her attention, Mia lost her balance and fell out the window. Marian insists that the fall was an accident and warns Liza not to tell anyone else that she had anything to do with it. Liza can't risk giving Adam ammunition to take Colby away from her.

Adam, who still wants to know why Liza feels responsible for Mia's condition, apologizes to Liza for his affair and how public it became. He also assures her that it's over. Liza admits that she pushed him away and into Brooke's arms, and they start to question where their marriage is going.

Mia's test results come back and they aren't good. The bleeding hasn't stopped and Mia is wheeled off for more surgery.
