The main negative seems to be his position on the Palestinian protests/Gaza. If he really did compare the protesters to the KKK, that is going to repeatedly come up (even if he only said it about some very specific antisemitic protesters, not all of the protesters). He does seem to have a reputation as a real mensch though. So who knows whether he’d be an asset or a liability.
