I worked the 2016 election at a polling place. There was a big turnout and we pollworkers were there from 5am until midnight. No time to leave and go to my polling site early, late or in the middle of the day. There was no lull. We were swamped all day and evening. Another year, I was doorknocking in Pennsylvania and living in a hotel there for the whole week prior to Election Day.
I have such respect for poll workers. For years, a neighbor of ours worked the polls faithfully. A couple different precincts shared the same polling place (a local church); I never had to remember which precinct I was in because I always just looked for Mrs. Manichi <g>.
In short, whether I’m working on a campaign or at a polling place, I’m not usually anywhere near my polling place on Election Day during voting hours.
Makes sense--thanks for answering!
