Despite reading the book in college, it wasn't until maybe a dozen years ago that I finally watched A Christmas Story. And it was only a few years ago that I finally saw Elf.
I'm happy for folks who cannot start celebrating the holidays soon enough but I'm one of those people who prefers to hold off on "Christmas-y stuff" until after Thanksgiving. Then again, while plenty of people are taking down their Christmas decorations December 26, or at least by New Year's Day, mine stay up until the weekend after Feast of the Epiphany/Twelfth Night.
