Right? If they wanted someone who just spent years leading a procedural, why not the now free Shemar Moore?

That would've been freaking amazing!! I would've loved him as the fire captain and, you know what? Instead of working with his son give that man a daughter who's also a firefighter.

....a version that will be cheaper than Lone Star that was reaching cast renegotiation time.

I guess they were too cheap to give the LS cast raises. We saw what happened with "Grace" before the season even aired. Which, honestly, they could've let Lowe go for my money. Owen was not that great a character. Just keep the others. Let them work under Judd now. Judd, far superior to Owen.

I'm curious where this show goes with the rest of the characters as well. OG and Lone Star were pretty diverse in casting different races and sexualities. Is that going to continue?

Me too, especially considering the location. I'm still not pleased with that. All the country music needle drops they will do. 😩 (At least make it something good, show, like a Johnny Cash or Patsy Cline or Willie Nelson.) I really wanted Hawaii but, fine, too expensive. But why not Virginia or NY state. How about "911: Maine" where all the big emergencies come from Stephen King books? 🤣🤣 They chase a serial killer dressed as a clown into the sewers. How about a rabid dog? An evil car? So much fun could've been had.
