Good News - My daughter's car overheated on the way to a WNBA game Friday evening. She'd planned to stay in that city for a few days, then return. That stay extended from last Friday through Thursday evening when I drove up to pick her up. Her dead Toyota Highlander is at a Toyota dealership. They'll keep it until we enact the final disposition (Hopefully via the internet instead of driving three and a half hours to do it.) now that we've paid $190 for their diagnostic testing of the vehicle. (Needs a replacement motor, radiator, and battery.) For a mere $11,000 at the dealership. The first garage where it was towed said they could make it roadworthy for $12,000, I'd save $1,000! Yeah, keep it. We may donate it. We were hoping to get a credit towards purchasing another car.

Late Thursday afternoon, I got to my oldest daughter's apartment where the youngest one was staying while we worked this out. The youngest one and I went to the car dealer holding the ex-vehicle and paid for the diagnostic test, gained access to the car (except the back hatch which won't open because the battery is dead) and unloaded EVERYTHING out of the car (minus the pieces of popcorn and some peanuts...yeah, she lived in the car) and headed back home, another three hour plus drive. We had to get home to feed the dogs. We stopped at Culver's to get something to eat on the road/when we got home, and fed the dogs around 9pm vice their regular 7:30pm.

This is still good news because we still have one running car (my Prius) and she wasn't hurt. Her vehicle started have flashing lights, then started to smoke...yeah, coulda been much worse. The dealership said it was caused by the water pump leaking which caused everything else to lose fluids and overheat.

This will be an ongoing adventure for awhile. I told my daughter that my coming to get her, driving three hours, was proof that I'd go out in the middle of the night to get her if she were ever too drunk to drive home. I told her that all that matters is that she's safe.

Bad News: Currently playing phone tag with the rep who said she'd work with us from the far away dealership. No rush now that we're home. Hoping to lose all responsibility for that vehicle by the end of next week.

Good News: My former contractor agreed to pay $10K of the $20K Friday...then sent a text Friday around noon that he was out of town after I let him know that I was home...He showed up at the house around 3:30 with the check. He gave me an update on how things had been going at his company. He said that he'd return the other $10K either in another $10K check or in two $5K checks. He also said that he'd still like to do the project that I have planned. I declined the offer.

Baddish news: My daughter and I will be sharing my car.

Good news: We'll get to work on better communications! I spent her time away clearing spaces in the kitchen so we can share the space better. Looks much better. This may help with the remodel plan...no word from the third contractor we met on 10 May.

Could be much worse. Everybody is whole. We'll get over the rest.
