we or someone we knew has ever done. This isn't it, but I was reminded of that post <g>...one day last weekend, I was getting ready for bed and noticed a speck of black on my forehead. I'd done some pour painting earlier and just assumed I'd somehow managed to get paint on my forehead (I enjoy pour painting but somehow, despite all the precautions I take, paint still gets everywhere). I scraped off the fleck and thought nothing about it...but a few days later, I saw another speck on my forehead. I scraped that one off too...and then a couple days later, there was yet another speck of black. Now I was starting to worry...is this some kind of skin disease? Should I make an appointment with my doctor? Then last night, Dad pointed to my forehead and told me I "had a spot"...and I *finally* figured out the (non-paint, non-medical cause). I use big, bulky headphones when listening to something on my laptop. The pleather on the part that connects the ear pieces is starting to flake away. In what's probably a vain attempt to avoid any further hair loss, I usually rest that strap across my forehead as opposed to on top of my head...THAT'S what those black flecks are from. Mystery solved!

In other news...I decided to try my hand at homemade hummus last night. I'd had a can of chickpeas in my cupboard for AGES, so when a friend told me how easy it was to make your own hummus, I bought some tahini and a fresh lemon and gave it a try. Three things...

1. I ran out of plain olive oil and had to use some dill olive oil I had in the cupboard

2. I'm so used to making things for Dad and skipping the salt because of his CHF that I omitted the salt in the recipe. Don't do that. Hummus really, REALLY needs at least a pinch of salt, preferably a good sea salt.

3. We have an ancient blender that I remember using to make milkshakes back when I was a pre-teen in the late 70s, plus I have a large, unwieldly food processor that I almost never use because it's a pain to assemble. I wasn't in the mood to drag out either (and then clean it later) so I went online to see if you can make hummus without a food processor or blender. You can; you can use a potato masher instead. So I did...it was WAY more work than I wanted to put into hummus and even after adding all the liquids (the olive oil, the lemon juice, a couple tablespoons of water), I still had hummus closer to the texture of crunchy peanut butter rather than creamy peanut butter. Oh well, it's still reasonably tasty, and I have some pita bread that's already gotten a couple tiny moldy spots that I need to eat up, so that's lunch today. But next time I want hummus, I'll just go to the gas station and get it like I usually do [link]
