Just FYI but mummification of extremities can happen pretty quickly

They had been dead THAT long that her hands mummified? And no one checked in on them? They both died where they stood? It's utterly bizarre.

They apparently had last been seen around two weeks ago. Mummification of the hands and feet is definitely possible in that time and isn't like what movies call mummification. It's just the absence of moisture, causing the skin to shrivel.

yet they found the other dog just fine.

There was apparently a doggy door, so the other two dogs were able to go in and out and get food and water. The deceased dog was crated.

I had wondered if maybe they had cooked a meal with poisoned mushrooms or something.

It's possible.
