First of all, my boss is going on sabbatical early October-mid November. He called to ask me if I wanted to be Interim Manager during that time, which we had previously discussed. My colleague D is the one who wants to be on a management track (yuck...he can have it; I'm fine with leading campaigns, mentoring, strategic planning, etc. plus my employer pays me very well) PLUS if timing works out for our move, I would be far too distracted with unpacking and all the mishegoss we will need to deal with in a new home prior to a holiday time house warming.
So I said...yep...let D have it. I could be useless then anyway.
So back to the house:
We are offering asking price. Other homes on that block have gone for less in recent years, due to also being older, but we sense that anything else would be rejected given its location. We will ask that they continue to repair some of the issues an inspection report from June found - dry rot fixes, roof sealing, and some other things. We will also do our own inspection. We would also ask they put money into escrow for pending replacements for the hot water heater and the HVAC. Both will be covered thru a home warranty, but my experience that would only cover half, esp. if these aren't up to code (the hot water heater is not; Sac County will require it be braced in the unlikely event that we have a serious earthquake, for example).
OMG...we need to make this manifest. This would be our oasis. This house is an area I've dreamed of living in.
The payments will stretch us, but with mindful spending, and spending time at home enjoying our beautiful oasis and its 7 fruit trees, we can do it.
The offer is due in on Friday.
