My Lana's current gig is a bit unstable. Company sold/bought out. She likes her immediate boss, who was her boss at the last job and a mentor. But it's looking more and more like they might be "downsized" out of a job. Just not sure when.

Meanwhile she started working two part-time shifts/week at the local YMCA about 6 months ago. She loves it! Only getting paid $15/hr., but she also gets a gym membership which is cool. And more importantly she has been connecting with people (her day job is almost 100% remote) and really likes all of her co-workers.

Well last week they had a huge all staff meeting and were told that they were going to transition to an almost 100% Full-Time staff. Personally I don't see how they can sustain this scheduling-wise. Plus, all FT means they have to pay everyone FT benefits....which most companies try to avoid for their bottom line.

She loves it there and they really like her. If she wanted to go FT, they'd take her in a heartbeat. But she can't work a 9 hour day (one hour unpaid lunch break) five days a week for $15/hr. plus bennies.

I honestly don't see how this is going to work out for the Y. Seems to me that they run on the backs of many part-time employees who are doing this as a side gig and cannot transition to FT at that "salary". I think that in less than a year they're going to be like, "Oh wait....we made a mistake".
