i've always wondered how Ancestry/23andme sustain their businesses

aaaaand I guess 23andme wasn't good enough at it, right?

but after one gets their DNA 'results' what is the next hook for the consumer? how do these companies continue to make money other than new people submitting dna?

I can more understand the Ancestry angle, because the more people use it, the more datapoints get added, but that is a slow process.

i mean, one isn't going to RESUBMIT their dna to a company like 23andme, the results are the results, unless and until new dna markers are identified.

at the end of the day, this bankruptcy is EXACTLY why I was always hesitant to use any kind of dna collection/evaluation service...everyone says that 'nothing online can REALLY be deleted' and one has to wonder if that theory extends to situations like this.
