a gift from bff, BTW): the results change over time. I sent in my initial sample in...I wanna say around late 2019? Since then, I've received no less than 8 updates; I've obviously not changed but they're constantly tweaking results as more people use their service. They also went from naming specific countries to mentioning broader regions instead. My initial results had me as 48% England/Wales/NE Europe, 22% Germanic Europe, 19% Sweden, 6% Eastern European/Russian and 5% Irish/Scottish. I was surprised...I knew my results would be overwhelmingly Eastern European but I was expecting more German (all 4 of Dad's grandparents came to America from Germany and Mom had some German in her as well). I was NOT expecting to see Sweden or Russia mentioned in my DNA profile. My last update, in November 2024, has me as 54% England & Northwest Europe, 32% Germanic Europe, 10% Central & Eastern Europe and, oddly, 4% Denmark.
23AndMe also updates on occasion, though not as often as Ancestry.com (and now not at all <g>). My initial results with them were 34.1% French and Northern German, 29.9% British and Irish, 11.4% Eastern European/Polish, 3.8% Scandinavian, 18>4% "broadly NW European", .6% "broadly South European" and, oddly, 1.9% just "broadly European". That was about 5 years ago...as of November of last year, according to 23AndMe I'm 99.9% European with 90% of that being NW European, 43.2% French and German, 27.7% British and Irish, 4% Scandinavian, 15.4% "broadly NW European". 9.6% Eastern European and, oddly, .1% "unassigned", whatever that is (I'm assuming they can't identify that .1% so I'm just gonna go with "ancient alien" <g>). And less than 2% of my DNA is "Neanderthal" but that's 74% more Neanderthal DNA than most people have.
