Daily Updates

Subject: PC: Update for 6/4/97 Pt. 1
From: Newberry@HUDCE.HARVARD.EDU (Newberry)

I walked into my house, ready to view my tape of PC and prepare my first
update, and to my horror found we'd had a power outage. Luckily, it
appeared to have occurred after PC & GH aired! BTW, I now have a
new-found appreciation for all of my update predecessors. PC is only a
half-hour show; I can't imagine doing this to cover an hour's worth of
material! :-)

Here goes, hope it's not too long, gives enough info, etc. This is my
virgin try...please be gentle with me!

Smirk-boy and Blondie
At the opening we find Dr. Chris Ramsey in bed enjoying the afterglow with
a blonde, who, upon hearing of his ordeal in the hostage situation, had
rushed to his penthouse-type abode (decorator's note: black leather
hide-a-bed, red satin sheets) clad only in a teddy, her trenchcoat and a
pair of mules. He is describing events to her, including the fact that
Cooper had prepared a real party for the interns, though he had only
provided domestic champagne. She seems aroused by the retelling of the
tale and asks "Who actually tackled him?" Dr. Ramsey pauses to reflect on
the situation (flashback), but Blondie mistakes his silence for humility
(big mistake there!) and assumes it was him. You're a hero! she sighs as
she covers him with XXXX's. Later, as he continues to explain how he
saved the day and outsmarted Cooper, he realizes they are out of champagne
and goes off to get more. She proceeds to tidy up, stumbling across the
file labeled Julie Morris. After inquiring about it upon Dr. Chris'
return, he snarls, "What are you doing, spying on me?" at which point he
pulls out $20, she's insulted, he insists it's for the cab, and she huffs
out, wishing him luck on his internship. Holding the Julie Morris file,
Smirk-boy, asserts, "Oh, I don't need luck, baby."

Buddy, Come out!
Julie Devlin a.k.a. Morris is having nightmare. She is a teenage girl in
the hallway of a grand house. She's looking for someone, calling out for
"Buddy" and imploring him to come out. There is a sound (gunshot??),
followed by a scream, followed by a flash to the hostage crisis, followed
by Julie jerking awake. (ed's note: this particular sequence was very
well done, IMHO). Later, Dr. Chris is placing a call to Dr. Julie,
coaching himself as he dials the number to take it slow and steady. When
she answers he tells her he's sorry to bother her, but felt the need to
talk w/someone. She confides about having nightmares. They bond, or at
least she thinks so.

Frank Scanlon, Mr. Fix-it?
Having overhead Drs. A. Quartermain and E. Burgess discussing Joe's
suspended internship, Frank approaches the new head resident and inquires
about his brother's status. Dr. Burgess assures Frank that when it comes
to her work, she's a no-nonsense lady and if Joe wants to help himself he
should prepare for his hearing with the Review Board. Frank then asks to
speak to Joe, who is being supportive of Karen (more on that to come).
"Why didn't you tell me?" he asks of his younger sib. "Leave it alone,"
Joe demands. "It will work out." Frank tries to convince Joe to tell Dr.
Burgess he's sorry.  Joe tells Frank to "go to bed" and returns to Karen;
Frank is not reassured. Later, Frank is allowed in to see Audrey for a
moment, and implores her to live for the people who love her and because
Joe needs her help. (Ed's note: as someone who is drawn to people's
eyes, Frank's are terrific!)

I want you to stay.
Joe is trying to convince Karen that she shouldn't make life-altering
decisions while on the emotional rollercoaster she's riding. She's not so
certain she should stay in PC, as she stands shivering in her skimpy
dress. He puts his jacket around her shoulders and states "I want you to
stay," after which they exchange a meaningful look. Later, they talk
about Scott and she marvels at how she never had a chance to get to know
him after she found out he was her father and now here she is performing
triage on him and signing surgical consent forms. Joe tells her how lucky
Scott is that she was there to help, how lucky he himself is that she was
there to help during the hostage situation and assures her that "saving
lives is what you were born to do." After more supportive talk she asks
"Is this an act that you're such a nice guy?" While Frank is talking to
Joe, Karen calls Mom to assure her she's fine. When Joe returns he asks
how Rhonda is. "Sober," replies Karen. They then discuss what it's like
to have a parent who drinks and Joe wonders why all the people who came to
his father's funeral didn't stop him from driving drunk. They marvel at
how Cooper had all the personal info on them and Joe says, "After tonight
this entire place is one giant exposed raw nerve. We'll never be the
same." Dr. Burgess comes to report that Scott's prognosis looks good, to
welcome Dr. Cates into the internship program and to fulfill her first
duty...delivering a summons for Karen to testify before the Review Board
in the case of Joe's suspension. "Why didn't you tell me?" He makes
light of it and she compliments his bed-side manner (and they exchange
another "look").

Little Fluffy Yellow Duckies Change Everything
Returning home after their stay at the police station, Lucy floats around
the refurbished lighthouse, gently rubbing her tummy and smiling. Kevin
assures her it's the same place. Yes, she agrees, it's great, terrific,
perfect, but "now that I know I've got this whole little person growing
inside of meÜit changes everything." She talks about how everything is
altered now that she has to look at everything for two. Kevin's inquires
"what about me?" and she assures him that "the three of us" are going to
be terrific. She then gets a funny look on her face and Kevin brings her
to the couch, wanting to assure that if she's going to faint again she has
a soft landing. No, she's had a flash about Scott and Serena and knows
something's not right. She's got to call Gail and Lee. Kevin implores
her to rest. She will, after she finds out what's wrong. At the Baldwins
she reaches a neighbor who is keeping phone vigil in case word comes about
Serena while the Baldwins are at the hospital with an injured Scott
(altho' we never saw them there during the show). She wants to rush to
the hospital, Kevin wants her to rest and take care of herself because
"Scott's still my pal." As Kevin goes to answer the doorbell he insists
she take at least five minutes to rest. "Four," she replies. Mac arrives
and inquires if they are all right. Yes, they're fine but Serena is still
missing. Lucy implores him to get the police force out there to look for
suspects, but Mac informs them of his firing. He states he's going to
freelance and find Serena, asks Lucy for Scott's phone number in Canada so
he can start to trace the trail of the kidnappers. Kevin asks Mac to lock
up...he and Lucy have somewhere to go. "Where?" she asks. "You need to
see Scott, don't you?" She sighs and goes to him. "It looks like I'm not
the only one who's psychic." Kevin glances towards her tummy and says,
"Well, let's just say I feel more connected to you."
(loveitloveitloveitloveitloveitloveit!)

At the hospital Kevin is talking to Karen who introduces him to Joe.
Kevin is glad to meet Frank Scanlon's brother. Lucy is in seeing the
still unconscious Scott. She reprimands him for ever thinking she would
do anything to hurt Serena and talks about when they brought her into the
world. She says if he's not in pain she'd certainly like to inflict some
upon him, but assures him that while he gets well she and Kevin and Mac
will find Serena and bring her back to him. Then, "we'll put this all
behind us and be the very best of pals again." After her visit she joins
Kevin, Karen & Joe. "He didn't wake up, but I know my pal Scott. He'll
be fine," she reassures Karen, and says she thinks she can see some of
Scott in the back of Karen's eyes (Lucy's an eye-person too! :-))) ) Lucy
and Karen promise to keep each other posted on Scott's condition and the
search for Serena and as they leave Kevin asks Joe to give his regards to
Frank.

P.S. Weird scene during the credits
Did anyone else notice that during the ending credits (which I don't
usually watch, there was a shot of Frank standing and talking to a woman
wearing nothing but a towel? What was up with that!?
