Port Charles - Usenet Note - Sunday June 8th 1997

Friday Update - June 6th 1997

Since this is our first Port Charles Update, and many of the characters
are new to us, and to you, we have thouroughly identified each
one as they come on the scene. Actors names are presented
parenthetically. Identifying characteristics are in quotes, like
so... Frank "I'm the second smartest guy in Port Charles" Scanlon
(Jay Pickett).

Dr. Jake "Medicine is secondary to my sex life" Marshak (Rib Hillis)
is on the phone trying to locate his girlfriend, Danielle, when there
is a knock on the door. It's his nosy landlady, Mrs. Greenlee (Annie
Abbott). She has brought him his mail and draws his attention to the
returned letter addressed to Danielle. Jake tells his landlady, rather
rudely, to mind her own business. She brushes that off and asks if he
isn't late to orientation, because of this girl. At which point he
rejoinds with the non-sequiter, "So I should just say it's over?"
"Isn't it?"

In the Interns' room, Chris "I run Dr. Dorman's fan club" Ramsey
(Nolan North), Karen "Gypsy Rose" Wexler, (Jennifer Hammon),
Matt "Exposition" Harmon (Mitch Longley), Eve "Don't Call Me
Evelyn" Lambert (Julie Pinson), and Julie "Don't Call Me Devlin"
Morris (Lisa Ann Hadley), are waiting for Jake and the new chief
Resident, Dr. Ellen Burgess. Matt wonders if this won't be difficult
for Dr. Burgess, and Chris doubts it because he's heard she's a block
of ice. Eve times the entrance of the Chief Resident. Ellen (Debbi
Morgan) is there on the second. She introduces herself and does a role
call. Everyone is "here" until she gets to Jake Marshak who is enroute.
Dr. Joe "I WILL work at General Hospital" Scanlon (Michael Dietz)
enters and tells Ellen to put his name on the list.

Scott "I want my kid back" Baldwin (Kin Shriner) collapses in Lucy
"This is my show" Coe's (Lynn Herring) arms at the Lighthouse door,
after having apparently wheeled himself all the way from General
Hospital. (That hill by the wharf must have been hell.) He crawls past
Lucy insisting that Serena is there, but Lucy shows him that she was
only watching a videotape of Serena. Scott continues to accuse Lucy
of taking Serena. Lucy says she does want a child, but that she is
having her own. Scott finally believes her. He tries to leave and look
for Serena, but only makes it as far as the coffee table.

Lucy tries to get Scott back on the couch. She offers to call the police
for him. She tells him she understands that he wanted her to have been
the one who kidnapped Serena because he knows she wouldn't hurt
the little girl. He's in pain. She offers to call an ambulance, but he
insists that he won't go to the hospital. He yells at Lucy, "Don't
tell me what to do!" Kevin "This is my lighthouse" Collins enters and
tells Scott not to speak that way to Lucy.

Back in the interns' room Joe pulls out the good old "House Officer's
Rulebook" to prove to Ellen that he can attend orientation since his
internship has not been revoked. She believes that his presence will
be disruptive, and that it's already difficult for this particular group.
Matt demands to know why this group is suspect, and Ellen
explains that the recent hostage situation could make others
percieve them as possibly unstable. (She was being tactful.) The
group agrees that they want Joe to study with them.

Ellen tells Joe that he had better not do anything disruptive or
she'll kick him out. Jake finally shows up, and Ellen reprimands
him. He starts to make an excuse, (What was he gonna say?
"I mislaid my girlfriend"), but Ellen cuts him off and makes it
clear that tardiness, excuses and mistakes will not be tolerated.
The interns wonder how they can avoid all mistakes. (We wonder
if they can be trusted with scalpels, assuming they don't stick
with power tools.) Ellen tells them they should consult her
before doing anything at all. They are interrupted by Nurse
Grace "I lost my patient" Sullivan (Lisa Lord). She asks
Ellen if she authorized Scott's release. Ellen says she didn't.
Julie suggests that Eve might have seen something when she
wheeled a chair in there. Eve says she saw Scott's lawyer.
Karen asks for a description. They all realize clever Scott has
tricked Dr. Eve. Karen suggests he might have gone to the
Lighthouse.

Lucy tries to calm Kevin. He asks what Scotty is doing there.
She explains that Scott has come looking for Serena and just
realized that Lucy doesn't have his daughter and he will have
to look elsewhere for his offspring. Kevin slips and momentarily
shows sympathy. He asks Lucy if she brought Scott there. She
tells him Scott made his own way there. She asks if he can stay.
Kevin says no, he needs medical care. Lucy point's out that
Kevin is a Doctor and he could take care of Scott. Kevin says
no, Scott cannot stay. (Kevin isn't given a chance to present
the logical arguments that A) Scott needs the resources of a
Hospital. B) That he hasn't practiced psychiatry in months,
leave alone medicine. C) Scott's bleedin' on his couch.)

Back in the interns room again, (and believe us we're getting pretty
tired of that place already. How about giving them some decorating
hints, Lucy?) Ellen tells the young Doctors that the duty schedule
will be posted and that they should read it carefully. She says there
was more, but that now she has to hunt down the spleenless Scott
Baldwin. She leaves. Joe thanks the others for supporting him.
Jake, who probably doesn't know what Joe's talking about, leaves
abruptly. Karen and Joe chat. Julie refuses Chris' invitation to lunch
because she has to go look at the apartment Frank offered her. She
offers to get together later. Julie apologizes to Eve for finking on
her, but Eve thinks Julie is trying to sabotage her. Julie denies it,
but, let's face it, she isn't going out of her way to be helpful either.
Joe offers the basement apartment to Matt (apparently he doesn't
know Frank has a likely prospect already... for the room.) Matt
isn't interested in a place with more stairs than the Empire State
Building. They talk about doing lunch, but Karen can't join them
because she has a meeting.

Eve goes to the sixth floor nurses station and opens a drawer from
which she removes a piece of paper. She folds that unevenly and puts
it in her purse. We don't know why. Maybe it was Stefan Cassadine's
secret formula for his doomsday bug. She asks the nurse for the staff
directory. Guess they haven't updated it lately because Kevin is still
in it. She writes down the address on another piece of paper, folds that
unevenly, and puts that in her purse. She leaves.

Karen and Lee "Gimme some air time" Baldwin (Peter Hansen) meet
at the sixth floor nurses station. Lee tells Karen that Lucy called and
Scott is indeed at the Lighthouse. Karen is underwhelmed with
concern. She asks Lee to represent Joe Scanlon in front of the
review board.

Back in that darn interns room, which has bunk beds, Joe and Matt
are still hanging out. Joe answers the phone and takes a message.
When Matt asks who it is, Joe casually replies that it was Karen's
husband. Matt and Joe leave, presumably to do lunch at the local
Denny's.

Jake returns to his apartment, which is cluttered with medical
paraphenila, and drops down onto the couch. A hand appears
from the side of the screen and caresses his troubled brow.
He sits up quickly and turns to see Danielle "Actress is a
Euphemism" Ashley (Renee Allman), who announces that
she is back. They proceed to make out on the couch.

Scott berates Kevin for not treating him, believing the
unliscensed Kevin is trying to avoid a malpractice suit.
Kevin says that Scott is jumping to conclusions, just
like he did before. He reminds Scott that falsely accusing
Lucy lost time that could have been better spent looking for
Serena. Scott grimaces, with pain or remorse, we can't
tell. Lucy makes Scott lie down, and orders Kevin to go
outside. Lucy gives Scotty Serena's stuffed cat and
covers him up again. She joins Kevin on the back porch.
Kevin apologizes for acting like a jerk, but insists that
he doesn't like the way Scott treats Lucy. Lucy shrugs
off Scott's behavior and Kevin promises that they will
find Serena.

Serena "I think birds are happy" Baldwin (Carly Schroeder),
is in a rather nicely appointed bedroom with tons of stuffed
animals. She walks to the window and gazes out wistfully.
She walks back to the large stuffed lion and assures the toy
that her Daddy will come for her soon, because he always
does.

Back at the Lighthouse, Scott is writhing in pain on the couch,
when Eve enters. (Without knocking; Kevin hates that.). Scott
tells her to go away, he's in pain. She informs him that his
pain is just beginning, and looks around for a power tool.
