                         PORT CHARLES UPDATE
                       Thursday, June 12, 1997

Sorry this is so late. Our regular updater has been having network
access problems, and I just found out today that she also missed the
June 12 episode of PC. So I'm supply a better-late-than-never-I-hope
substitute update.

TODAY'S STORYLINES:

"OKAY, YOU'RE A SLUT - SUITS ME FINE"
--------------------------------------
At the hospital, Karen is talking to Mac about the car that hit
Scott - she offers a somewhat vague description of it, and asks
Mac to tell Scott she hopes things work out with Serena.

Ellen Burgess comes up to Karen, looking for Eve. She has no luck,
but we see her arriving at the Lighthouse (apparently Kevin and Lucy
don't lock their door, because everybody just bursts in). She tells
Scott she has 30 seconds and so he should unbutton his shirt and
lie down. Scott: "Couldn't we have dinner first?" Eve removes
Scott's bandage, and asks about the latest word on Serena. She tells
him he's doing better. They hear Lucy's voice - Scott wasn't
expecting her so soon - and when Lucy walks in, she sees Scott and
Eve kissing. Lucy, annoyed, interrupts them and chides Scott for
his activities. She asks who Eve is, but Eve says, "It's none of
her business." Lucy reminds them (several times) that they are
in her house before she goes upstairs, leaving them alone.

Eve tells Scott why she kissed him - "I would rather she think I
was a slut than a renegade doctor." Scott doesn't care - "Okay,
you're a slut - suits me fine." Eve leaves, yelling at Lucy,
"You have some nerve!" Lucy calls after her, "It's my house."
Then she reams Scott out for fooling around with a woman while
Serena is in danger. Scott tries to make excuses without much
success. Lucy asks if the woman was a "pro," or maybe a gold-
digger. She reminds him that she was right about Katherine, but
he wouldn't listen then, and she can't believe he's going to make
the same mistake again..... unless this woman has some connection
to the kidnappers. Lucy threatens to call the FBI and ask about
the woman, and when Scott tells her not to do that, Lucy can't
believe that Scott is protecting a stranger "after arresting me
at the drop of a hat." Scott reminds Lucy that, in the police
station, she asked him to trust her. Lucy reminds *him*, "You
didn't trust me." Scott begs her to drop the situation, but
Lucy thinks this is a bad time for them to have secrets.

Mac arrives to break up the argument. Mac tells them that Karen's
description of the car that hit Scott is similar to the descrip-
tion of the car that took Serena away.

After Mac leaves, Lucy paces the room nervously. She can't just
sit and do nothing. Scott starts to tell Lucy about Serena's
morning routine - she wakes up singing. Lucy was happy all the
time when Serena was inside of her - "golden and dignified and
magnificent." (Hey, Lucy, there's a baby inside of you now, too,
that might make you feel pretty magnificent if you let it....) They
talk about Dominique and the effect she had on both of them. Scott
is worried that the kidnapping experience has changed Serena somehow.
Lucy assures him that she won't let that happen.

The phone rings; Scott answers. It is Serena, saying, "Daddy, is
that you?"

HOSPITAL DOINGS
---------------
Julie needs to start a patient's IV, and it's pretty clear she
doesn't know what she's doing. Frank wanders by and offers her
some much-needed advice. Chris sees them together and glares.
Later, at the nurses' station, Julie thanks Frank for the coaching.
Frank objects to the term - when he coaches, he's very entertaining.
It turns out that he coaches a kids' baseball team. He invites
her to watch his game tomorrow; she finds out she has the day off,
and agrees to go to the game. Chris hears this exchange and drags
Julie off to help him with a sick child. Later Chris shows Julie
that the on-call schedule has changed, and now she has to work.
Unseen by her, he smirks at her disappointment.

Matt is having trouble with an intoxicated patient who says that
no "cripple" is going to touch him. Out in the hall, Joe watches
the situation. The orderly who was helping Matt rushes to get
Ellen Burgess, but Joe stops them from going in, telling them that
Matt can handle the situation. Joe is right. Matt shows the patient
that he isn't afraid or weak, and talks him into being examined,
while Joe, Ellen, and the orderly look on. Matt sends the guy off
to X-ray with the orderly. Ellen tells Matt, "You got lucky."
Matt has the LOD: "Actually, I don't swing that way. One minority
status is enough for me." Burgess questions Matt's ability to handle
the job, but he insists that he can handle it. He can roll faster
than people can walk - sometimes he even feels "sympathy for you
bipeds." Burgess is not amused.

Frank sees Joe observing Jake at work, and tells him it would be
better to lay low for now. They start arguing, finally going to
the supply room. The argument escalates into a shouting match.
Karen comes by and overhears; she thinks about getting involved,
but she changes her mind, saying to herself, "Men!"

Julie overhears Ellen still looking for Eve; she tells Ellen that
Eve was feeling unwell and went to lie down. Unfortunately, just
then Eve walks up offering a different excuse. Ellen gets called
away, but Eve accuses Julie of setting her up again. Julie tries
to explain that she was trying to cover for Eve, but Eve doesn't
believe it. Chris comes by to hear their argument, and asks,
"Is there mud-wrestling on the carpet tonight?"  Julie stalks off;
Chris asks Eve, "That time of the month?" He smirks as Eve tells
him to shut up.

Ellen, on her way to have it out with Eve, overhears Frank and
Joe shouting at each other and breaks up the argument. They
try to save face, pretending that Joe was just helping Frank to
collect some needed supplies. Ellen watches, bemused, as they
quickly leave the room.

Eve tells Joe that she's looking for an apartment, and Joe tells
her about his basement apartment (the one Frank just rented to
Julie); she says she wants to take it. Then Eve goes off in search
of Ellen. She apologizes; Ellen tells her that she is out if she
makes one more mistake.

Grace Sullivan comes in and tells Ellen that "it wouldn't be the
end of the world if the interns thought you had real human emotions."
Ellen replies, "They would be wrong to think that. I don't."
