Port Charles - Friday Update - June 13 1997

Friday the Thirteenth... Let's see who was Lucky and who was Unlucky.

Chris catches Eve opening his locker. He wants to know why she's so
interested in his business. (Unaware that Eve is looking for a Storyline,
and he's already got one.) Jake comes in and plops down on the couch.
He picks up the phone to call Danielle, but she is right behind him.

Frank helps Julie unpack her meager belongings. And he comments on
her lack of furniture, as if she could have brought it on a plane from
Chicago. She asks him if they have a spare bed upstairs, and Frank
resists the temptation towards innuendo. He shows her that he has
had a phone installed for her and suggests she call her parents.

In a continuation of Thursday's scene, Scott takes a call from Serena
where she asks him, "Daddy is that you?" and asks why he hasn't come
to get her. Scott talks to her, but the pone is hung up.

Lucy and Scott discuss the call. She thinks that it's a hopeful sign,
but he's worried because Serena did not respond to anything he said.
The cop they had hiding in the closet pops out and tells them it was
a local call, and that have it on tape in "the van". Kevin hears the
hubbub and comes into the room. He also thinks it's great that the
kidnappers have made contact.

Julie tells Frank that she can't call her parents because they're on a
wholesome camping trip, with her five non-existent brothers and
sisters. Julie is lying. Julie offers Frank dinner and they order out
for Chinese (555-0183... Frank has the number memorized.) He runs
upstairs to get the beer.

Jake and Danielle kiss till they just about suck each other's lungs out.
Eve objects on the basis of common decency, and limited space. Jake
demands that Eve apologize to Danielle, who wasn't offended to begin
with. Eve says a quick, insincere "sorry". Jake tells Danielle that he
wants to protect her. Danielle refuses to tell Jake how to contact her
at work. Chris, tired of being ignored, inists that Eve answers the
question about why she was in his locker. She explains that she knows
that Julie's Cooper-file is missing.

Eve accuses Chris of taking the file. He denies it. Jake asks Danielle
if she wouldn't rather work at the Hospital. (The interns' lounge is
one of those acoustical miracles where two separate conversations
can be held five feet apart and not be overheard.) Danielle says she
doesn't like hospitals. Danielle leaves Jake to his 36 hour shift.
Eve then tells Chris and Jake that she is leaving to move into her
new apartment.

Meanwhile back in the disputed basement. Julie and Frank discuss
baseball. We suspect she's lying about being a baseball fan since she
didn't seem to be following his conversation. She asks him if he didn't
consider a career in medicine. At first he passes off the question with
a bad joke, but then tells her that he was pre-med at Notre Dame when
his father died and he had to go home and take care of his family.
(*sniff* Joe's an ingrate.). He says he has no regrets and asks about
her life, but she's lost track of what lies she's told. He already caught
her most obvious lie, "How can you call yourself a baseball fan when
you don't even drink beer." Julie takes the question seriously, and tells
him she doesn't like to be out of control. He says he doesn't either,
and takes another slug of beer. She almost tells him that she's been
lying her face off, but the doorbell rings. It's the Chinese food being
delivered.

Kevin tells Lucy and Scott that he's been studying up on kidnappers.
(And he has had personal experience in that area). He tells Scott that
people who steal children for nasty nefarious reasons other than
ransom, would not make contact. Since they had contacted them
it implied that they had a vested interest in keeping the child safe.
(Of course real profit-oriented kidnappers kill their victims, to
eliminate witnesses, but for Soap reality Kevin is correct. Might we
point out that the Lindbergs never got their baby back.) Their cop-on-call
comes back in to play the tape of Serena for them. Scott has
him play it over and over.

Julie and Frank chat over the Chinese food, which they've spread out
on a blanket in the basement. Julie tries to tell Frank the truth again,
but they are interrupted by a falling suitcase, Eve, auditioning for a
Samsonite commercial, is moving in her stuff. She comes downstairs
and is outraged by Julie's (and Frank's?) presence. Eve pulls out her
lease. Julie's lease pre-date's Eve's, but Eve's is on a more orthodox
material than a paper towel, and notarized. Frank suggests that the
two women share the apartment. They both look at him like he is
completely nuts. Frank, the coward, leaves them to settle the question
by themselves.

Chris comes into the interns room covered with baby vomit. He
explains to the uninterested Jake that he didn't believe the baby's
mother that the child couldn't keep anything down. The result
was a "freaking volcano". Chris stomps off to shower and proclaims
"I can't wait until I'm a surgeon and the patients are anesthestized"
Jake wanders over to his locker and gazes psychotically at Danielle's
8x10 black and white photo.

Danielle is "at work" sitting in a not well lighted office. She complains
that "she" must be frightened. Rex Stanton emerges, drssed in black
like a good villain, from the shadows. He assures Danielle that
everything is going according to plan.

Scotty calls Lee to tell him that they heard from Serena's kidnappers.
We do not actually see Lee. Our cop comes in with a packet from
those very same kidnappers. But we'll have to wait until Monday
to find out what's in it.. probably a demand that Scott make them
a bookshelf.

Director - Andrew Lee
