OK, we are up and functional again. FINALLY, the Tuesday update for PC:

We open with Julie (!) asleep on Chris' couch (!!). She wakes up and
wakes him. Apparently he talked for quite a while last night and she
listened. Now he has to go on call but she assures him that he's had 6
and half hours of sleep. She stayed to make sure that he didn't miss
the alarm.

Julie, ever gracious, tells him that his secret (actually *having*
feelings about the death of a patient) is safe with her. He asks what
he owes her and she wants him to do the same for her.

Eve rushes into the empty kitchen with her newfound money and slaps $250
on the counter, saying "here's your blood money, you slumlord." We have
a FLASHBACK to the money falling into her purse yesterday. She says
aloud "Finders Keepers or the stupidest thing you've ever done."

Lucy and Scott and Serena are seated around the coffee table playing
chinese checkers. A regular checker board is nearby. Lucy has just
lost and she is accusing Scott and Serena of being hustlers. Serena
plays a lot but never realized that three could play. (Those extra
marbles were for . . . ? OK, she's adorable, she's forgiven this brain
glitch.) Lucy points out that up to six can play and they could make
pizza night pizza and game night and invite Karen and Gail and Lee.

Serena, ever adorable, asks if Kevin and Lucy are rich. apparently she
has been wondering about the bag of money that inexplicably remains open
in the middle of the living room. Scott says that was the money he was
going to pay for her. Serna says "that lady wanted all that money for
me?"

Jake and Danielle are in bed. For the benefit of Marty, Jake is
shirtless. Jake talks about how lucky he is. Danielle talks about how
much she wants to make him happy. Just as your fearless updater was
about to doze off, Jake's pager goes off. He gets up to go to the
living room and she rolls over looking worried.

For the benefit of Marty, a shirtless Jake walks around the living room
when he hears a knock at the door. Cut to Danielle, who hears Rex's
voice. She gets up, looks out the bedroom door and sees that it is
Rex. She looks appropriately traumatized and we cut to . . .

Credits.

Return to Rex on the couch sipping coffee. Having teased Marty enough,
Jake is getting dressed and calling Danielle to come out. Rex is
commenting on how he had a couple of hours free so he dropped by.
Danielle joins them. Rex offers breakfast but Jake begs off because of
the page (hmm, is Rex devious enough to have engineered the page?). Rex
and Jake exchange pleasant goodbyes (maybe it was me, but did anyone
else think that Rex was faking it here?) Jake talks about how wonderful
Danielle is and then leaves just in time to prevent me dozing off again.

Rex and Danielle are alone. Danielle tries to throw him out. Rex
continues in his syrupy sweet voice about how surprised he is at her
since he thought she'd want him out of her life not the apartment. He
pulls on black gloves and slams the bedroom door (she was planning to
escape under the sheets?). In a menacing tone, he tells her "we're
partners and from w on, it's strictly business).

[updater note -- I can now positively id good acting. When I find it
impossible to do justice to a scene on paper, I know the actors are
adding layers and layers. Rex in this scene was one such example. Very
little he said or did was threatening but you knew she was in danger.]

Back to Serena and Scott, Serena rephrases her question for those who
weren't listening "you were going to pay all that money for me?" Scott
says he would have paid a lot more. Serena asks if he made all that
making furniture. This is the first time that Lucy has heard of this
furniture making. Serena, ever adorable, goes to paint a picture for
Sigmund.

We learn that Scott makes Mission style furniture and he switched to
furniture making from lawyering so he can spend more time with Serena.
Lucy wants Serena to stay so they can all spend time with her.

Lucy asks about Eve. Scott, tells the truth, Eve was helping him. Lucy
asks why she was kissing him and he explains that it was to throw Lucy
off. He says "Underneath the new toolbelt, I havethe same old tools."

He wants to go on an errand. Serena, ever adorable, doesn't want to join
him. Lucy wants Serena to stay with her. Scott agrees but says they
have to stay here. Lucy says "not fair." Scott replies, "you know the
old me. I was never fair."

Cut to Eve in the empty kitchen, looking appropriately traumatized. She
says aloud "I have to give the money back."

Frank walks in and says "Eve." She turns and says "I am not a thief."
Frank tells her "I said Eve." He sees the rent and takes it. She tries
to stop him. He takes it anyway.

Frank starts off to see Julie. Eve, annoyed that he has prevented her
belated repentance, gleefully tells him that Julie never came home last
night and is not in the apartment. (It was unclear to this usually
attentive viewer how Eve knows that since she was just arriving herself
but I guess she was so eager to point out the lapse that she failed to
consider that Julie may have arrived in her absence.) Frank looks
appropriately traumatized.

Back at Chris' place, Julie is speechifying about not being prepared in
med school to deal with death. Chiris, appearing with two coffees, says
"and failure."
Julie confides that she lost someone close to her, she didn't see it
coming, and didn't think it was even possible. She discovered life is
delicate and fragile and that's why she's a doctor. She asks Chris
Chris is a doctor. He makes some smart comment about the "10 obligatory
stepsto building a friendship." Nevertheless, they engage in deep and
meaningful conversation in which they conclude that Chris is only
human. Julie has to leave to go on call and Chris starts to stammer out
his thanks but he doesn't complete any sentences. She cuts him off and
says "you're welcome." She leaves. Chris, having discovered his
conscience, throws Julie's file away.

In the ER, Jake is working on a patient. Matt comes in to help. They
discuss the ring. What luck, the patient is a jeweler. Jake says he
didn't get a chance to ask her because uncle showed up out of the blue
with a 3 carat diamond pendant.

Speaking of Rex, let's cut back to Rex and Julie. He says "sit down."
She does (this is begging for a comment about a man with a canine name
telling her to sit but I'm not coming up with any.) He tells her "away
from the briefcase." She moves. The suitcase contains surprises. She
doesn't want surprises. Ah, they're not pleasant ones like the
necklace. He presents her with all the evidence that clearly indicates
that she was the kidnapper. He shows her the lease. She says "I didn't
sign that." He mocks her, saying that she should say it like this and
then repeats the phrase like an overacting hysteric. He then shows her
evidence that he was in Germany the whole time. She continues to act
brave until he says "how many years will Jake get for being your
accomplice?" She looks appropriately traumatized.

Frank comes across Matt and Jake bonding over paperwork. He wants to
know if they have seen his mom. They haven't.

Chris walks into ER and a woman runs up to him with a limp child,
yelling "someone help me, she's not breathing." He looks appropriately
traumatized.

(One of the updater's 5-year-olds was concerned that it was the ever
adorable Serena. It wasn't).

Eve is on the phone to the pawn shop. They won't take purses or
clothes. She has a watch that is worth more than $250 but it means a
lot to her. Scott bursts in and tells her they have something to
discuss. She looks appropriately traumatized.

Back to Danielle and Rex. Danielle starts to beg. Rex tells her she
has to play ball. Danielle asks why, he has everything he wanted. Rex,
for the first time, erupts into rage. He tells her that he doesn't have
everything he wants and she is not allowed to even breathe without
asking him. Danielle says "I hate you." Rex comments that hate is a
powerful emotion and how much does Scott hate the woman who kidnapped
Serena and the woman who ran him down in the car. Danielle, shocked at
the information, says "you hit him." "No," Rex says, having regained
his composure, "you did." Danielle, looking appropriately traumatized,
starts to cry.
