and Karen

I HAVE A PROBLEM
Lucy, Scott and Serena are having breakfast, where Lucy has prepared
waffles that look like Mickey Mouse. Serena wants to know if Lucy can show
her Daddy how to do that. Scott wonders what she's complaining about; he
did make one that looked like Ted Koppel that one time! Lucy tells Scott
he should go see Karen and gives him her new address and phone number.
Scott wants to know what was going on w/Karen, but Lucy says, in French
(kind of), not in front of the little one. Serena knows what she said; she
had a teacher who was from Quebec.

Kevin arrives from his jog, throws the newspaper at Scott and says he might
want to check out the real estate section in the back. Scott replies,
"Thanks, Fido." Kevin's retort: "Almost original." Lucy and Scott vy for
cutting Serena's waffle. Meanwhile, Kevin keeps up with his talk about
Scott moving out. Lucy assures him he can stay as long as he likes; they
have plenty of room. Serena inquires if they can find a lighthouse of
their own to live in. Scott says there's only one in PC. Kevin assures
Serena her daddy will find something even better. Lucy keeps assuring
everyone that Scott doesn't need to leave. Scott and Serena go off to see
Lee and Gail and Scott to visit Karen. Lucy immediately tells Kevin he
doesn't want Scott to go; she doesn't want to give up Serena as part of her
life. Kevin understands that, but doesn't like the way Scott talks to
Lucy. She tries to explain that's just the way he is and she doesn't
mind...much. Kevin says it's up to him to protect her and demand that
Scott show her some respect...Scott is holding Lucy an emotional hostage.
She acknowledges that but says she doesn't care. Kevin does.

Lucy says that Kevin is just jealous because her attention is not directly
on him. He assures her that jealousy is not the issue, but that he is
concerned. She asserts that he and their baby are her number one priority,
but he trips her up when he gets her to say she can't think about honeymoon
plans until after Scott & Serena are settled. She realizes she's caught.
She explains to Kevin that Scott needs time to adjust to being back in PC
w/all it's painful memories, can't he understand that? Kevin says he's
still trying to think of "Scott" and "adjust" in the same sentence. Kevin
gives up...for now...and goes off to the shower and then hospital.
[author's comment: Hubby walked in while I was watching today and, upon
seeing Kevin's new haircut said, "Wow, he looks young!"]

A SIMPLE WEDDING....NOT

Danielle goes to see Rex. She tells him she has accepted Jake's proposal.
Rex scoffs at the size of her diamond...not as big as the one he gave her.
Her retort: "But Jake PAID for his." Danielle wants assurances that if
she continues to help Rex, he won't interfere with her wedding, which will
be a small, simple affair. Rex says no, she's supposed to be from a large
family and her wedding should suit her "social standing." Danielle is
entranced by the description he gives...and he notes that she won't have to
pay for a thing...Scott Baldwin will. Before she leaves, she tells Rex she
doesn't know what his next plan is, but knows that he still needs her help,
so in return he'd better lay off Jake. She assures Rex that Jake is the
best thing that every happened to her. "Ouch!" Rex exclaims. "I thought
that was me."

Later, Kevin and Danielle almost collide (again) in the hospital. They
each share their excitement at their engaged status. A sure sign of
doom...

MOTHERS ARE HELPFUL...sometimes
Rhonda is helping Karen move into her new apartment. Karen thanks her and
Rhonda assures her that, even though Karen wouldn't know, that's what
mothers are for. Karen says let's not go there. Karen shows Rhonda the
patio, where Rhonda remarks how romantic it is, which leads to a discussion
of Jagger. Karen hopes she hasn't done the wrong thing by coming home
because if it takes going back to San Francisco to save her marriage, she
will. Rhonda is not happy to hear this; Karen has already given up the SF
internship...if she leaves PC she'll have nothing. "Jagger is not
nothing!" insists Karen. Rhonda tries to get Karen to see her concern is
that Karen is sacrificing everything and Jagger doesn't even call. Karen
insists Rhonda has never liked Jagger but Rhonda says you can't trust men,
they walk in and out of your life, and she is proof of that. Karen says,
"you and I are not the same." Whlie they are "discussing" this Scott
arrives at the open doorway.

At first, the encounter with Rhonda is awkward, but then she gives him a
big hug and they tell each other they look great. He tells Rhonda she has
done a great job with Karen and is sorry she had to do it alone. That's
ok, Rhonda assures him, here's your chance to make up for lost time, and
leaves them alone.

Scott asks Karen what's wrong, she dissolves into tears and into his arms,
he comforts her while looking panicked. Later, they are talking and he
quizzes her on the status of things. He asks what is happening with the
"flat foot in SF". "DETECTIVE." Karen tells him. She starts to defend
Jagger, but her pain overrides and the waterworks start again. Scott
offers more tissues.

BEWARE OF STRANGERS BEARING PROPOSALS
No, not that kind. Rex arrives at Lucy's house with the business proposal
regarding Jax Cosmetics. She invites him in as she begins to look it over,
so busy reading she doesn't really pay attention to the questions he's
asking about Serena...she is there, glad to hear she's staying, he knows
how much Lucy enjoys her company, etc. He remarks that she's such a poised
and self-assured little girl and wonders if she knows her mother named her
after Serenity. That grabs Lucy's attention and she wants to know EXACTLY
how he knew that!
