From: bv143@FreeNet.Carleton.CA (T.A. Murray) Subject: PC: Friday Update - 8/1/97 Date: 4 Aug 1997 01:26:22 GMT Port Charles - Friday Update - August 1st 1997 (posted and e-mailed) A PORT CHARLES FAIRY TALE Once upon a time there was a beautiful young maiden, Danielle, who was, alas, not gifted with cleverness. One morning she was breakfasting with her beloved, an adept apprentice magician, Jake, who was, alas, not gifted with social skills. They were making plans to visit the humble cottage of his parents in New Jersey. With the blessing of his parents they could then be married. But they were interruped by Danielle's evil Uncle, The Sorcerer Rex, who was, alas, not gifted with sanity. But Jake was unaware of Rex' evil nature, and allowed him to enter with his fruit basket. The Good King, Scott, who was alas not gifted with common sense, had crept into the bedchamber of the Lady Eve, which she shared with the other apprentices. Lady Eve who was, alas, not gifted with riches... not yet, was, like Jake, an Apprentice Magician King Scott roused her from her sleep. He was searching for the Princess Karen, but was just as happy to find the Lady Eve. The King did banter with the Lady. "I'm on duty," she informed him. "Working for your money instead of stealing it?" King Scott said, referring to Lady Eve's habit of tucking a few of the crown jewels in her purse. "Yeah well, you married yours," she shot back, referring to the departed Queen Dominique, who had left her fortunes and lands to her King, who had once been a commoner. King Scott told the Lady Eve that she did not understand the concept of True Love. The Lady Eve scoffed. "Oh I remember, love, in the fairy tale books my mom used to read me." "So cynical, so young," said King Scott and he offered her refreshment. The Lady Eve, insolently, declared that she would serve herself, and asked him if he had merely awoken her to torture her. King Scott told her that he was there to bestow his thanks upon her. Meanwhile at the Castle Lighthouse, brave Knight-errant Kevin, who was, alas, not gifted with employment, was attending the Princess Serena, who was, alas, gifted with everything. The princess had brought him a warm drink, which she had made with her own hands, though she was not allowed to drink or pour that particular beverage. For she was a very good princess, and she wished to lighten the spirits of the grieving Knight Kevin. The Princess asked why Lady Lucy, who was, alas, not on today, was away. Knight Kevin explained that Lady Lucy would rather be about her duties, than dwelling on her grief. He thanked the Princess Serena for helping the Lady Lucy with her love. Then a bell rang announcing the arrival of someone at the castle gates. The Knight sprang up and lowered the drawbridge allowing The King's stepmother Gail, who was, alas, not a bit evil, to enter. The Knight greeted her warmly and escorted her to the Princess. Gail had come to take her granddaughter, Princess Serena on a royal outing. Serena asked if Sigmund, the castle duck, who was alas, not even in the opening montage, could accompany them. Knight Kevin had to refuse her. The Princess and her grandmother set out on their journey, encountering at the gate, the ex-sheriff of Nottingham and Port Charles, Mac, who was, alas, also unemployed, but made a good living off the tavern he owned. Mac was a good friend of Knight Kevin's. He entered the castle and inquired after Kevin's health. "How ya doin', Mate." The sad Knight Kevin replied, "I'm dying inside, Mac." Friend Mac gave Knight Kevin a manly hug. Kevin thanked Friend Mac for dropping by. Friend Mac asked after the health of Lady Lucy and Knight Kevin informed him that, "Lucy is sad. And I'm a wreck." Further the Lady Lucy was trying to stop thinking about what had happened, but Knight Kevin could not stop thinking about it. Mac opined that this was normal. Kevin was unsure of what constituted normal and worried that Lucy feared she would not be able to bear another child. He pointed out that it was ironic that the one child she did bear, the Princess Serena, was not hers to keep. Mac asked if King Scott was keeping Princess Serena away from the Lady Lucy, but Kevin denied it. King Scott was a benevolent, if neurotic, King, who had been most kind in the present circumstances. Ex-sheriff Mac recalled when he had been engaged to the Princess Felicia, whose thoughts had all been for the wandering Knight Frisco. He tactlessly wondered if the situation with Knight Kevin, Lady Lucy and King Scott was not similar. Knight Kevin scowled and assured him that King Scott and Lady Lucy were just good friends. Mac was surprised at Kevin's good opinion of King Scott and jokingly wondered if he would take Mac's place as Knight Kevin's staunchest companion. Knight Kevin could only laugh at the idea. The Lady Eve looked at herself in the mirror and found her coiffure less than perfect. She told King Scott that if he truly wished to thank her he could do it by leaving when she was in such an unpresentable state. He commented that he thought she had a natural beauty. The Lady Eve chose to take that as an insult and asked the King if he looked perfect when he first awoke. He averred that he did, but that, "I've got a cowlick problem, but I have specific products to take care of that." He thanked her again, for looking after the Princess Serena. "You didn't have to do it." "Considering you almost lost me my job, almost got me arrested and almost thrown out of my apartment, you're right, I didn't have to," Lady Eve said impudently. So the King asked her why she did help and Lady Eve said it was because she liked the Princess (Indeed everyone did, except the Evil Sorcerer Rex.) To insult the King, Lady Eve commented that Princess Serena must take after her mother, Queen Dominique. King Scott agreed with that. King Scott said that he had been looking for The Princess Karen. Lady Eve said she had no knowledge of her whereabouts. She asked if the Princess Serena was well, and King Scott said that she was, "holding us together." "Big load for small shoulders," Lady Eve commented. King Scott agreed with her again, and told her that he and Lady Lucy had been through this together before. Lady Eve was surprised, "The two of you?..." She broke off and sipped her beverage. King Scott wondered why she didn't take the opportunity to verbally attack. "Wait until the caffiene kicks in," Lady Eve said drily. He declared that it was not a good idea to wait for that and began to leave her chamber. She asked him to greet the Princess Serena for her, which encouraged him to once again thank her for her assistance. She told him that it was the least she could do considering one of her colleagues must have used the wrong type of leeches to draw the Princess' blood. The King demanded to know what Lady Eve meant by that. Lady Eve asked if the King had not noticed the bruise on the Princess' arm. It was from blood being badly drawn, she explained. The King was most upset. The Evil Sorcerer Rex congratulated the apprentice magician on his scholarly work. Jake left the room to prepare to visit the village and heal the sick. Rex helped himself to some of their repast. The beautiful young maiden, Danielle, was not happy to see her Evil Uncle. She angrily told him that he could keep his fruitbasket, because it would only spoil in the days she and her beloved were away from home, meeting his parents. The Evil Rex told her that he would not permit her to leave, and if she tried he would tell her beloved of the things Danielle had done while under his evil spell. The King again demanded answers from the Lady Eve. Where was the mark on the Princess Serena? Lady Eve told him that it was on the inside of the child's elbow. The King grew distraught, for he had not ordered the child's blood to be drawn, which meant it had to have been done when the Princess was taken captive by unknown evil-doers. What part of their evil plans was this? Quickly he pulled the Lady Eve to her feet, so that she could come and see to the health of the Princess. The Lady Eve objected that first she needed the permission of the Master Sorcerer, Alan of Quartermaine. King Scott was not worried. The Sorcerer would do as he bid. Knight Kevin assured Friend Mac that all he needed was time to heal. (Cigar references cut. Smoking may be hazardous to your health.) Friend Mac asked him if he didn't also need a chance to feel. Knight Kevin stoically declared that the child had not been meant to be, and that his grief was not going to help. Friend Mac suggested that it would help to let it out. Knight Kevin, being big into denial and repression, ignored the suggestion. He and the Lady Lucy were still going to be wed and have a family. In the meantime they had a duck, a fine castle, and good compassionate friends. Friend Mac accepted that and changed the subject. As Knight Kevin had asked him to, he had made queries about the Sorcerer Rex. The claims of the Sorcerer were true. He was indeed the Uncle of the late Queen Dominique, brother of King Avery. The Maiden, Danielle sat in her cottage, waiting for her beloved to reappear. She fretted over a way to break the spell the Evil Sorcerer Rex had cast over her. She vowed that she would not allow her beloved to be harmed. Apprentice Sorcerer Jake reappeared. He asked her if anything was wrong, but she denied it, and assured him that she loved him deeply. Still Rex' spell prevented her from bringing the truth to her lips. Jake, having magically transported himself to the village, cast a spell so that he might hear his mother in the faraway village of New Jersey. He told her of his scholarly achievements in the area of DNA alteration. When she claimed not to understand the arcane language he promised to translate it for her when he came to visit. He told her also that she would love the beautiful maiden Danielle. Danielle was visiting the tomb of the departed Queen Dominique. Tears were in her eyes as she told the Queen that she was her long lost sister, but no Princess, as King Avery had refused to acknowledge her. She wondered what it had been like to be raised as a Princess, or indeed what it would have been like to have a sister. Had Dominique been as lonely as she? She laid down the roses she had brought. She told her dead sister that she, Danielle, should never have listened to the evil words of the Sorcerer Rex. She should never have helped him take the Princess Serena captive. She asked her dead sister to pray for her and swore that she would never let The Evil Sorcerer Rex harm the innocent Princess Serena again. Knight Kevin, whose instincts had told him that Rex was deceiving them, thought that he must have been wrong. Friend Mac told him that he was still waiting for a messenger from overseas that might have more recent tidings of the Sorcerer Rex. Just then the arrival of King Scott was heralded. He entered with the Lady Eve, and demanded to know where the Princess Serena was. Knight Kevin reminded him that the Princess was on an excursion with her Grandmother. Kevin asked the King what was troubling him, but the King lied and said nought was wrong. Knight Kevin suspected otherwise, but when Friend Mac said that he had to leave to meet the messenger, Kevin willingly went with him. Lady Eve tried to reassure King Scott that there was no danger. He did not believe her. On the village green, the Evil Sorcerer Rex unrolled the scroll that showed a brilliant spell written by the apprentice sorcerer Jake. He praised the young man's grasp of magic, and denounced his judgement when it came to maidens. He declared it fortunate for himself. He was hidden by the trees, so that when the Princess Serena and her grandmother came to sit on the village green, they did not see him. Gail asked Serena if she had enjoyed there outing, and she had very much. She asked her Grandmother why some babies died and some babies lived. Gail explained that God had a special plan for such children. As he had special plans for her mother, Queen Dominque, Princess Serena concluded. Her grandmother agreed and they left the village green. The Sorcerer Rex, smiled evilly and said that the greatest monument to Queen Dominique was the riches she had left behind, and that he intended they should be his. He would see that the Princess Serena would assist him in his diabolical plans. And they all lived elaborately ever after.
