From: rika@netcom.com (Melissa Martin) Subject: PC: Update, Tuesday, 8/5/97 Date: Wed, 6 Aug 1997 03:17:58 GMT PORT CHARLES UPDATE Tuesday, August 5, 1997 TODAY'S STORYLINES: ------------------- * How the Other Half Lives * "Love at First Crash" * "A Big, Fat, Dysfunctional Family" * "Dear Jake" HOW THE OTHER HALF LIVES ------------------------ Chris Ramsey is putting the finishing touches on an elegantly set table - silver, crystal, linens, roses, candles. The doorbell rings, and it's Julie Morris. She asks what gives with the fancy table - she thought this was two interns sharing a meal, not a French restaurant. Julie is uncomfortable - it looks like a set-up. Chris assures her that he knows they're just friends, but he doesn't buy into the "suffering-intern" idea. She reminds him that he doesn't *have* to, and he replies, "Well, neither do you" - he knows who she really is. She stonewalls until says he knows her father is Bennett Devlin. He claims that he heard Cooper call her "Dr. Devlin" in the ER, and it wasn't hard to figure out the rest. Chris doesn't see what the big deal is - "if my father were famous, I'd work it." Julie tells him how, in med school, she never knew if she was any good, or if people just gave her good grades because of her father. He tells her she ought to *know* she's the best - at least, to him she is. But Julie doesn't know that, and for once she wanted to be liked for herself, not for who she was. Chris suggests that they eat dinner. Julie claims to have lost her appetite, but Chris points out that the fish "gave up his gills for you." She gives in and they sit down. Chris claims to admire what Julie did - it was very "classy." Since an internship is "dog eat dog, I'd be using every edge I had." This raises Julie's antennae; she asks what he plans to do with the information. He admits if it was someone else, he'd use the information - the way he was brought up, failure wasn't an option. But he wouldn't hurt Julie. Chris knew they had a lot in common, and that there was a reason he felt comfortable with her: "Smart, rich.... you're together." She's not so sure about that last. He covers her hand with his and assures her, "You are so beautiful." "LOVE AT FIRST CRASH" --------------------- Kevin arrives at the hospital. Jake stops him - is there something wrong with Lucy? Kevin assures him that everything is fine.... physically, anyway. Kevin thanks Jake for what he said to them at the time (about admiring Kevin and Lucy's love and connection), and asks Jake if he heard right - is Jake engaged? A nurse tells Kevin that an EKG is being run on his father. He says he'll wait. (Your updater can't believe that we actually got confir- mation that Kevin's father still exists - didn't we last see him about two months ago?) Jake explains that it's a precaution to make sure Victor's medication isn't interfering with his heart rhythm - and then realizes that Kevin is a doctor and doesn't need the explanation. Kevin doesn't mind. Jake asks if there's anything he can do for Kevin. Kevin asks for a reminder of what it's like to be 25, with your whole future ahead. Jake says, "It's pretty simple - my whole future is one person." (Yes, and she *is* pretty simple...) He talks about meeting Danielle - she fell over him one day in New York when she was rollerblading. (Somehow, this fits.) "Love at first crash," Kevin remarks. "A BIG, FAT, DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY" ---------------------------------- Danielle has brought Lucy home from Dom's gravesite, where they had a conversation on Monday's show. Lucy drags Scott and Danielle, kicking and screaming, into being introduced to one another. Then Lucy explains that Danielle is Dom's half-sister. Scott's immediate reaction is cynical laughter. Dom never said anything about a half- sister. Lucy reminds him that Dom never mentioned Katherine Bell either; Scott retorts, "Yeah, and you saw how swell that turned out." Scott remembers seeing Danielle at the hospital the previous day, when Serena recognized her. Scott is suspicious of Danielle's claim, to say the least, while Lucy argues that Scott ought to be glad to meet "the love of your life's half-sister." Danielle tries to leave for the umpteenth time, but this time Scott stops her. Scott asks how Danielle and Lucy met, and she explains about Rex Stanton. Lucy had planned to tell Scott, but the miscarriage interfered. Lucy can see that normal tactics aren't going to work. She asks Danielle to excuse the way she's about to behave, and Danielle's pouty lips pout even more as Lucy tells Scott he's acting like a "big fat stupid jerk." Scott corrects her - he's "just a little cautious about my wife's memory." (Thank goodness SOMEBODY is.) He explains to Danielle that someone else (he's talking about Katherine Bell) tried to take advantage of that. Scott asks how much Danielle knows about Dom; she explains that she only knows what Lucy has told her; their conversation was interrupted when Lucy got dizzy. Both Danielle and Scott try to get Lucy to go lie down; Scott and Lucy are bickering about it when Kevin walks in. Kevin and Danielle greet each other, and she asks him, "What are you doing here?" Kevin explains, "I live here." Danielle, confused, Apoints to Scott and Lucy: "But *they* live here." Kevin's reply (LOD alert), with a big grin, is, "Yeah. Just one big, fat, dysfunctional family." Scott tells Kevin that Lucy wasn't feeling well earlier, and Kevin starts to panic until Danielle's departure interrupts him. Lucy thanks Danielle for the ride home, and Scott tells Danielle, "I'll talk to you later." The instant Danielle leaves, Kevin turns to Lucy and asks if he should call the doctor; Lucy explains her dizzy spell. Scott thinks Lucy should be lying down, but she'd probably have to be tied to the bed to accomplish that. When Lucy objects to Scott's "ape man" suggestion, he beats a hasty retreat to check on Serena. Kevin gets Lucy to sit down. She explains that she got sad, so she went to Dom's grave, and she saw Danielle there. Kevin explains that he met Danielle at the hospital. He thinks she's very sweet, but she seems sad. Lucy thinks so too, and is impressed that she and Kevin both have "perfect human instinct type antennae"; now, if only "that big bozo Scott" could see the same thing. Kevin is missing something: "You think that's why she hangs around cemeteries, because she's sad?" Lucy explains Danielle's connection to Dom. Lucy thinks Dominique sent Danielle to her when she really needed her. Kevin tells Lucy that, the next time she feels sad, he wants to hear it from her. She strokes his face and agrees, and then tells him that she really wants to be a mother one day. He tells her that she will be, and when she asks if that's a promise, he vows to do everything in *his* power. They laugh and then kiss, only to be interrupted by Scott and Serena. Scott covers Serena's eyes and warns her, "There's some kissing going on - don't look." Scott claims to be all out of stories to tell Serena, and asks Lucy to tell her one. Lucy happily agrees; she takes Serena out on the patio. Inside, Kevin thanks Scott for letting Lucy spend time with Serena. Scott, not wanting to be caught doing a good deed, insists that Lucy is doing him the favor. Kevin isn't fooled: "Since when have you ever been 'out of' anything for your daughter?" Meanwhile, outside, Lucy tells Serena about the time Sigmund helped Lucy to pick her wardrobe for a big date. (Unfortunately, the date in question was with mobster Joe Scully, as part of Luke's Majorly Dumb Plan, so we'll pass over that occasion without further comment.) During the story, Serena, who is snuggled against Lucy, gets sleepy. She looks up at Dom's star and says, "Good night, mommy." Scott asks Kevin how well he knows Danielle. Not well, Kevin explains, asking if it isn't quite a shock to meet Dom's sister unexpectedly. "If she is," replies Scott. Kevin asks if Scott has some reason to doubt Danielle; Scott thinks the timing is a "little fishy." "DEAR JAKE" ----------- Danielle has changed her hairstyle since leaving the Lighthouse; I suppose this is her traveling hairdo, because there is a small suitcase (this girl *really* travels light) on the sofa. She flashes back (oh, please, NO) to a montage of moments with Jake - his marriage proposal, a rose in her teeth, the two of them between red sheets. Then, thank heaven, we get something less horrifying: Rex threatening Danielle. She sits down with a piece of paper and a pen, and writes, "Dear Jake:". This apparently exhausts her vocabulary for the moment, because she then stares off into space. Danielle apparently got a vocabulary transfusion while we watched other scenes, because when we return she is busy writing her "Dear Jake" letter. You know - I'm trying to do the right thing for both of us, we don't really belong together, I love you, etc. She finishes it and tearfully removes her engagement ring, placing it on top of the letter. She grabs her purse and suitcase, and pauses to look back and the letter and the ring (and in order to give Jake time to arrive home). Jake takes in the scene - ring on the table, suitcase at her side, tears in her eyes, and correctly concludes, "You're leaving me, aren't you?" ---------------- by Rika, 1/2 of the Tuesday Update Team
