Daily Updates
From: "Linda N." <n042066@erols.com> Subject: PC: Update for Wednesday, Aug. 20 Date: 22 Aug 1997 14:42:53 GMT I'm changing the format of my update for today. Usually I like to do a whole storyline, but today's show seemed to contain little vignettes of interactions among many characters, so I decided to follow it pretty much as the action occurred. Eve and Scott are standing by the side of the road, she with her thumb out, trying to entice someone to stop. She needs to get to the hospital. Scott is bemused and tells her to get into the car instead of flashing her "assets" to every passing pickup truck driver. Dr. Boardman is undertaking the roll call for the first day of the surgery rotation. Eve and Julie are MIA. He suggests to the others that they not follow this example because otherwise, they'll be on his LIST, and they DON'T want THAT [He said it in such a menacing way, what I wanted to know was, what happens to you when you're on the LIST?] He announces that rounds will start in half an hour. Matt and Ellen are discussing the Cooper case. Matt tells her she needs to protect herself. Ellen tells him to mind his own career and leave hers alone. Frank and Julie are steaming up the shower stall [the water is supposed to be cold, but the heat they are generating is enough to raise the humidity level in all of PC!] Frank finally starts to think with his other head and pulls back; Julie has to get to the hospital! Eve decides she has to stay away from Scott, since everytime they are together, her career suffers in some way, and she has worked too long and hard to sacrifice her career. Scott says she should trust him; he'll get her there. He instructs her to hold a cable in a certain way; she assures him that if she can insert a catheter she can hold this cable. Success! the car starts. The interns minus the two missing ladies dubs Dr. Boardman "Dr. Attilla-the-Hun." Joe and Chris spar over whose fault it is over Julie's absence, Chris' or Frank's. Karen tells Joe to stay away from Chris and Joe apologizes, saying the guy just pushes all of his negative buttons. Joe tells Karen he's glad she went to SF and straightened everything out w/Jagger. It's important to have her concentration on the surgical rotation. Karen just smiles. Matt and Ellen discuss Lee Baldwin's advice that she find herself a good attorney. Matt says that then the attorney can be working on the legal matters while "we" can focus on "our" theory that Cooper did this himself. Ellen wonders when it became "our" theory; Matt acknowledges that it's really his theory but he's willing to share. Afterall, although they don't look like Nick and Nora Charles, he thinks they'll make a good team. Dr. Attilla (oops, Boardman) chides Ellen on her handling of the interns thus far. He says that if David Faulk were still alive, things would be very different. Ellen flashes back to the day she and David held their respective letters in their hands regarding who was named the Chief Resident. David tells her that if he wins, they'll go to the opera and a vegetarian dinner featuring okra, but if she's selected, he wants to know how they'll celebrate. She finally says they'll go bowling and then for pasta afterwards. They open their letters. She congratulates him by saying that the next group of interns is going to be the best ever because they'll have the best leading them...him. He encourages her to keep after her dreams, grab her opportunities when they appear, and to NEVER give up on herself or her career. Remembering this, Ellen vows to fight for herself. [BTW, I loved this flashback scene...this is how flashbacks should be used...to show us the background behind a character's motivation w/o just showing us scenes we've already seen!] After a close call helping Julie zip up her dress[didn't know dress-zipping included neck-nibbling], Frank finally succeeds in getting Julie out the door and on the road to the hospital, complete w/a siren-whaling ambulance ride. Dr. Atill...Boardman is calling the roll again for the beginning of rounds. Eve and Julie both rush in just as their names are called. Eve tries to explain about the car breaking down, but Dr. B. doesn't really care. Scott steps forward and says don't blame her. Dr. B. wants to know who he is and when he says his name is Baldwin, related to Lee, Dr. B. backs off. The interns begin to leave to follow Dr. B. on his rounds. Scott greets Karen and remarks he hasn't heard from her since her return from California. She replies she knows and that she'll call him, then rushes to catch up w/the others. Ellen asks Scott if she can talk w/him. She needs representation. He replies he's not currently practicing. She says she saw what he did for Joe Scanlon before the review board and she really needs his help...and uses a word practically foreign to her vocabulary---PLEASE. She fills him in on the case and he asks if she's gotten a copy of the transcript of the meetings between Cooper's attorneys and the hospital. She didn't even know such a thing exists. Oh, if Scott knows Lee, which he does, there's a transcript all right. He tells her to find a way to get a hold of it...they could get it eventually by supeona [ack, how do you spell that word! :-)], but it would be faster if she could ask a friend to help her out. Ellen asks him how much his fee is going to be...he replies that she couldn't afford him, but one day he might ask for a favor. The interns leave the room of a patient and discuss the possible diagnosis. Dr. B. calls upon Julie to give her opinion. After an initial misstep, she states her course of action and diagnosis, with which Dr. B. concurs. Frank is watching from the hallway. As the interns disperse, he steps forward to congratulate her. Chris and Eve watch and Eve teases Chris about having missed the mark again. Respectfully submitted, -- Linda N.
