From: bv143@FreeNet.Carleton.CA (T.A. Murray) Subject: PC: Friday Update - 8/22/97 Date: 24 Aug 1997 23:37:16 GMT Port Charles - Friday Update - August 22nd 1997 (posted and e-mailed) PORT CHARLES - THE FASHION REPORT The watch word for the day is casual; that relaxed look with a touch of elegance. Lucy and Kevin walk out of the elevator on the sixth floor. Lucy is wearing a lemon-yellow dress, with an interesting loop belt buckle in the center. Not the usual daring fashion statement she wears to work, but casual day-off wear. This is accented by a greenish-tan non-matching handbag. Kevin asks Lucy if she's sure she wants to see his father. She'd rather do that than think about Rex possibly being kidnaping scum. She still thinks Danielle is okay ad Kevin thinks Jake is a nice guy. They agree that Jake doesn't seem like a criminal. Jake walks in. Frank is in the kitchen, on the phone to his mother who is at the Recovery Room. Frank is making a very interesting fashion mistake. The red t-shirt with the slight splits on the side, the white pants, the goofy look, are all reminiscent of the late sixties Gilligan ensemble. Only the short sleeves and lack of a white cap offset the effect. He assures his Mom that taking care of kids is like riding a bike, you never forget. Cut to Mary who is behind the bar. The kids are in front of it tossing popcorn and generally misbehaving. Mary believes that she is past her prime for this kind of activity. Frank is waiting for Julie to come home so he can talk to her before he leaves. Julie walks through the door while Frank's on the phone. They hang up. Mary pulls out a rosary and says a prayer for the team to win it's little league championship game. Back home, Julie and Frank kiss. Karen comes into the interns lounge and opens her locker. She thinks she is alone, and strips off her scrubs. In her black underwear she heads for the bathroom. To her surprise out walks Joe, clad only in a becoming beige towel, worn provocatively and loosely around the hips. They both seem stunned. Karen and Joe are both embarrassed. Karen drops an article of clothing and she and Joe both bend to pick it up. He nearly loses his towel. They both apologize and Joe retreats to the bathroom, where he gets dressed. They chatter about that day's surgery as Karen gets dressed in the lounge. They both finish dressing. Karen is wearing a black top with white buttons, and a perky purple skirt. Karen asks Joe if he has plans for that evening. He says, yes , just as Grace walks in. She is wearing a sporty dark grey t-shirt, a white baseball cap and black jeans. Joe explains to Karen's that Frank's kids are in the championship and that one of them is Grace's nephew. He asks Grace if she remembered the t-shirts. She says she did or her nephew Ernie would never forgive her. Ernie? Karen asks. Grace explains that her brother's favorite author was Ernest Hemingway. Gail walks in and asks if she can have a word alone with Karen. Grace and Joe were leaving anyway. Gail asks Karen if she's told anyone about her and Jagger. Karen says she hasn't. Julie and Frank are still kissing in the kitchen. Julie heard Frank on the phone congratulates him for having his team reach the championship. Julie is wearing an off-white polyester suit with a pocket on each breast and no redeeming fashion value. They're playing the number one team that night. Julie hopes they win and Frank says that wasn't the only thing he hoped happened that night. Lucy and Kevin go over and greet Jake. Jake is wearing a white t-shirt with a celadon-colored shirt over it and over both the classic white lab coat. Jake asks Lucy's how she's feeling and she says she's been throwing herself into her work. She adds that she really likes having Danielle work for her. Jake looks surprised and Kevin and Lucy notice. Lucy suggests that whole family should get together for dinner, and says she discussed it with Rex. Jake is surprised to hear the name coming from Lucy's lips, but covers up and says that'd be great. He changes the subject and asks if Kevin is going to see his father. Jake looked in on him and there was no change. Lucy is pleased that Jake checked up on Victor. Jake explains that he's interested in the genetic roots of Victor's disorder. He is totally oblivious that this might be something that personally affected the man in his immediate vicinity, but Kevin only sees the humor in it, and stifles a laugh. He asks Jake if he's noticed any change at all in Victor. Jake denies it, though he thought Kevin had something with the course of treatment. The conversation is interrupted by a nurse. (In a casual pink sweater) who tells Jake he has a phone call and that it's from a lawyer. Jake takes the call. Lucy and Kevin agree that they still think Jake is a nice guy, but that he has some problems. Jake tells the person on the phone that he's looking for a good immigration lawyer. He asks the caller if their conversations will be absolutely confidential. We see the other end of the line, Serenity, where Rex says that "Uncle Rex will never know." In keeping with his villain role and the casual dress for the day, Rex is wearing a black long sleeve shirt and grey trousers. Jake gets it now, and tries not to let his face betray it to Kevin and Lucy who are still hanging out. Over the phone Rex rubs it in. "I am always one step ahead of you. Actually in your case it's more like twenty or thirty, but whose counting." Lucy looks over at Jake and suggest that Kevin goes and sees his father, while she tries to get Jake to talk. "Tell Victor I'm dying for a little conversation," she adds. (Finally a perfect conversational partner for Lucy, one that doesn't try to get a word in edgewise.) Kevin walks back to the elevator. He's wearing a black jacket and a light shirt with no tie. Lucy asks the nurse if she can use the phone for a long distance call. She picks up the phone, but doesn't dial. She listens to Jake's side of the phone conversation. Rex is threatening Jake, telling him that he'd better listen to him or numerous bad things will happen to his parents. He advises Jake to be careful who he talks to. Jake hangs up. As he stalks away, Lucy stops him and says she thinks she can help. Frank is heading for the door but stops to comment that at least the Devlin's and Scanlons have a love of sports in common. Julie admits that was also a lie. She is the only sports fan in her family. She grants that she did play basketball with her father and brother, till her brother refused to play with her father, then she played her brother, Buddy, one on one at night. Frank tells Julie he doesn't care about the stories she told, but he is curious why Buddy stopped playing basketball with her dad. Julie says it's complicated and she doesn't really understand it. Instead of leaving and relieving his mother of unwanted babysitting duties, he kisses Julie, yet again. Karen tells Gail that she isn't going to tell anyone about Jagger. It's none of their business, and anyway with surgical instruction beginning she didn't want Ellen Burgess to think she had personal problems. Besides she doesn't know if Jagger wants to end it. Gail points out that this put's Karen in an awkward position. Gail is wearing a dark blue belted blouse with matching pants, chic, but professional. Karen says she doesn't want to burden anyone else with her problems. Gail advised her not to put to much stock in what Fran Barber said. Karen says Fran is Jagger's partner and they were close. Gail says the affair could all be in Fran's mind. All the more reason not to tell anyone, especially Joe Scanlon, says Karen. In Victor's room, Kevin is looking at his chart. "No change, no change, no change," he concludes. Victor is lying on the bed, dressed with a pathetic lack of fashionable taste, in a shapeless grey sweater, a tannish grey shirt, and brown pants. (Hint Kevin, buy Dad some nice turtleneck sweaters.) Kevin embarks on, by necessity, a monologue, which we will refrain from giving word for word. Kevin says that Victor's treatment hinges on his own will. He also informs Victor that he and Lucy lost the baby. He pulls up a chair and sits down by the bed. He confesses that he was afraid to become a father, but that when it actually happened the fear vanished. He thought the relationship with Victor wouldn't be so important to him if he had his own child. But now, "I don't have a child, but I'm still a son." He reiterates his discouragement at the lack of response to the course of treatment. He asks Victor to blink if he doesn't give a damn. Victor doesn't blink. "On the other hand don't do anything if you want me to keep banging my head against the wall." Victor doesn't do anything. "Well, I guess it's back to the wall." He starts to leave. Victor says loudly, "Kevin!" Kevin turns around. "Stay." Victor says hoarsely. Jake says he didn't mean to snap at Lucy but that he has to leave. She tells him to wait. She's says it's forward of her and it might seem like intruding, but what is he running from. He claims not to be running. She says he was very unhappy about the phone call. What was the problem? He has really high hourly rates? She knows the best lawyer in the world, Scott Baldwin. She says they, Lucy, Kevin and Scott all want to help him. Gail asks Karen why Joe is special..Karen lies and says she's not treating Joe any differently than anyone else. Karen admits that she came to rely on Joe and that both of them got ideas. She thinks maybe she was using Joe to fulfill a need that the absent Jagger wasn't fulfilling. But she made a choice, and it was to be Jagger's life partner, and she was sticking to it. Gail points out that Jagger and Karen were quite young when they married and they might have grown apart. Karen says she isn't giving up. Gail asks if she's reluctant to tell Joe because of his feelings for her and she says no it's because of her feelings for him. At the Recovery Room we focus in on the t-shirts Grace brought. They have an unusual sponsor. "Guido's Mortuary - Know us before you need us.'" the shirts proclaim. Frank enters and asks Grace and Joe to pass out the t-shirts. Frank has a pep talk with his star-pitcher, a little black girl called Jonesy, and with his right fielder, Grace's nephew Ernie, who stinks at baseball. Joe asks what made Frank late, and then deduces that it was Julie. Was Julie coming to the game? Frank says she wouldn't miss it for anything. Well... almost anything. Julie has showered and changed into a skimpy white t-shirt and a pair of shorts. (If she tied the shirt up and put in some pigtails, she could have the whole Mary Ann thing going to complement Frank's Gilligan.) There's a knock on the door as she picks up her black handbag. She opens it thinking Frank has come back, having forgotten to get that fifteenth kiss. At the door is Julie's father, looking resplendent in a dark blue suit, with a maroon tie and white shirt. (Twin Peaks fans think back, doesn't this guy look like Leland. Shouldn't Julie run like hell.) "What are you doing here?" Julie asks. "You can do better than that," says Bennett Devlin. Media Reference of the Day Award - The team Frank's Team beat to reach the championship was "Hogan's Heroes". Fashion Do - Joe's towel, let's hope it catches on. Fashion Don't - Victor's sweater.
