From: rika1@mindspring.com (Rika) Subject: PC: Update, 8/25/97 Date: Wed, 27 Aug 1997 14:45:15 GMT X-Server-Date: 27 Aug 1997 14:47:08 GMT PORT CHARLES UPDATE Monday, August 25, 1997 Today's Storylines: ------------------ * The Fly Tie that Binds * Dr. Devlin Makes a House Call * Life with Uncle Rex * Fathers and Sons THE FLY TIE THAT BINDS ---------------------- Chris Ramsey is in the OCR, tying dry flies. Eve floats in, euphoric after observing several surgical procedures: "I now know that I was put on this earth to operate." Chris agrees that this is true - "just not in the hospital." Eve asks if he's making Frank Scanlon voodoo dolls; Chris responds grumpily. He claims that he's lost interest in Frank and Julie and is going to let them do whatever they want. Eve asks what he's up to. Chris claims that he's decided to move on to other things; Eve doesn't understand why that appears to involve fly fishing. Chris explains that Dr. Boardman, the senior surgical resident, is a fly fisherman. Eve now understands - he's sucking up. Chris insists he's tying the flies to improve his dexterity - but it's not his fault if Boardman loves to fish. He wants to be the top intern in the class; he and Julie have the knack for it, but some people don't. Eve complains about her own bad luck, but she insists that Julie's good luck can't last forever. Chris suggests that maybe surgery isn't a good career for Eve. Maybe she should take up with a rich guy - like Scott Baldwin. Eve insists that she is depending on herself, not some rich older guy. Chris notes her defensiveness; she leaves. Chris is tying another fly when he hears the door open. He assumes it's Eve, and makes a snotty remark about her whining. It's Boardman, which temporarily throws Chris off, but Boardman notes the dry flies and begins to discuss fishing with Chris, who claims that he and his father fished together every summer. Chris brown-noses Boardman about his technique and command in the O.R. DOCTOR DEVLIN MAKES A HOUSE CALL -------------------------------- Julie is surprised to see her father - he thought they agreed that he wouldn't come to Port Charles. He explains that "the details of our agreement kind of slipped my mind" (oh, this guy is going to love Chris Ramsey). Looking around the Scanlon kitchen, Dr. Devlin remarks that "I didn't expect to see you living like this." He says that Julie's mother is worried about her - the strain of the internship, combined with living a double life, could be difficult. Julie insists that she didn't use those words with her mother (but, Julie, Chris Ramsey no doubt used them when he called your dad). Julie assures him that she's fine, but he's worried about the extra pressure too. She reminds him that he promised to give her a year with no interference, but he's doubting the promise now. He could buy her a wonderful apartment so she wouldn't have to come home to "this." Julie assures him that she doesn't actually live in the house, and he is relieved until she explains, "I live in the basement." She assures him that she is happy, although the secret identity gets complicated, and some people do know who she is. He still doesn't understand why she's hiding her identity; she tries to explain. He remarks, "If you do this, there will be con- sequences - I just hope you're prepared." (INSERT OMINOUS MUSIC HERE.) Dr. Devlin agrees, "Hands off from dear old Dad." (Yeah, right, I can just SEE that happening). He wants to take Julie to the Port Charles Grill - she explains about her plans for the evening (which involve the baseball game Frank's team is about to play). She remarks, "If I'd known you were coming...." (what? she'd have baked a cake?) Devlin can't see why she can't change her plans (and I tend to agree with him). She doesn't want to break her promise to Frank; Devlin admires her show of integrity and hugs her. As he suggests that they have breakfast together tomorrow, Eve walks in with a bag of groceries. She freezes in shock, and the groceries slip out of her hands and fall to the floor. The sounds startles Devlin, who turns around and stares in surprise at Eve. LIFE WITH UNCLE REX ------------------- Lucy, having overheard Jake's phone conversation on Friday, offers hers and Kevin's support if Jake needs it. Jake doesn't understand why they would want to help, when they barely know each other. Lucy explains that Jake and Danielle have been kind to herself and to Kevin, plus there's Danielle's connection to Dominique. Danielle appears. She goes to Jake, puts her arm through his, and kisses him; his response is cool and awkward, which Lucy notices. Jake thanks Lucy for the offered support; Lucy says she has to go visit Victor. Jake hopes Victor is doing better; Lucy hopes things work out for "the two of you." After Lucy leaves, Danielle asks Jake what Lucy meant - what did Jake say to Lucy? Nothing, Jake assures her. She shows him a fax from Rex that arrived at the office; it's a copy of Jake's parents' expired passports. Danielle explains that she doesn't know how Rex gets his information, but Jake must be very careful what he says and to whom. "Your life isn't yours anymore," she explains. Jake is beginning to see what Danielle has been going through. Danielle apologizes to Jake for involving him in this mess. Perhaps she should just run away, she suggests. Jake reminds her that it's too late - if she runs, Scott, Serena, and Jake's parents will all suffer. Danielle insists that it isn't too late. Jake is worried about his parents - Danielle figures they'll be safe as long as she and Jake do what Rex says. Kidnapping Serena was just the beginning - now Rex wants Jake's help. Jake wonders what he has that Rex wants. FATHERS AND SONS ---------------- In Victor Collins's hospital room, Victor suddenly speaks to Kevin, after months of nonresponsiveness: "Kevin, stay." (As a reminder, on Friday's show Kevin told Victor about the miscarriage, and was preparing to leave when Victor spoke). Kevin, astonished, sits down next to Victor's bed and asks Victor to stay with him. "It's very difficult," Victor says, and Kevin says he understands. Victor clarifies - it's difficult to lose a child. "I'm so sorry, Monk, for you." Kevin, fighting back tears, is overcome by Victor's response. Victor goes on: "Lucy wanted the baby." Kevin agrees - it's been painful for both of them, but Lucy has been so brave. "She's good for you," comments Victor, exerting great effort to stay in the present (and showing better taste in women than he exhibited in his own selection of a spouse). He remarks that he is tired; Kevin understands, but begs him to stay focused. Unfortunately, Victor slips back into his usual state. Kevin rushes over to make some notes on Victor's chart. Lucy arrives; Kevin, stammering and nearly incoherent, tells her what happened. Lucy speaks to Victor, thanking him for being Kevin's father and assuring him that she and Kevin would always be there for him. Kevin explains that Victor needs to want to be in the present; the physiological problems seem to be fixed. Lucy tells Victor that he has the smartest son in the whole world; she tells Kevin that she never doubted him. Outside of Victor's room, Kevin asks about Lucy's conversation with Jake. She recaps it for him, remarking on the tension between Jake and Danielle. On the elevator, Lucy is a bit uneasy, remembering her experience during the hostage situation; Kevin notices and puts his arm around her. Kevin remarks that he thinks Jake and Danielle are about to break under the pressure - but he doesn't know what it means for the Lighthouse Gang. The elevator doors open, and Kevin and Lucy see Jake and Danielle, both looking like they're very upset, and Lucy notices that Danielle isn't wearing her engagement ring. ------------------ by Rika, subbing for Marguerite
