From: Justene Adamec <Justene@worldnet.att.net> Subject: PC: Update Tuesday August 26, 1997 Date: Wed, 27 Aug 1997 12:10:07 -0700 Update, Tuesday, August 26, 1997 Gail has come to the hospital late at night bearing Chinese food to check on Karen. Karen tells Gail that she is in limbo because she hasn't heard from Jagger, who must know what Fran told Karen by now. (They both agree on this but it seems to me that Fran could have omitted this bit of info.) Gail brings up Joe and Karen says "please don't make me sorry I told you about that." But then Karen launches into a discussion of her feelings for Joe. Joe and Frank are at the Recovery Room. The kids (who are waiting for the softball game bus) are outside. Frank is pacing and looking for Julie. At the Scanlon kitchen, Julie is standing with her dad. Eve has just walked in and dropped all her groceries in shock at the sight of Bennett Devlin. After the credits, Julie explains the story behind using the name Morris. Eve greets Devlin with "I feel like I know you already." Devlin asks her to keep what she knows to herself. Eve jokes that when she first walked in she thought they were dating. Julie responds "this is my father; the only oman in his life is Mom." Eve says "right." then Eve and Julie engage in some goodnatured teasing of Dad. Well, Julie is goodnatured. Back at the recovery room, Joe and Frank continue to make conversation while waiting for the bus, which is late. Frank has no idea what happened at Karen's reunion with Jagger. He knows that his feelings for her aren't right even though he can't help what he feels. Karen is sending signals to keep away. When she returned, he saw her and knew she was the one for him. Unfortunately, the one for her is Jagger. Back at the hospital, Karen and Gail are chatting over the food. Karen wonders what would have happened if she had pursued a relationship with Jo when she was ten and whether she would be in this current mess if she had. then she reminisces about how she and Jagger were once in love and she went through hell to be with him. She comments that the marriage died when Stone died (which would explain why the audience who last saw them before Stone's death was oblivious to this plot development. Does it explain why they didn't return for the memorial?) Karen tells Gail that, in her last year of med school, she was working in the ER when a gunshot victim came in covered in blood. It was a full two minutes before she realized it was Jagger. She stayed by him and went to the chapel and prayed for his recovery. When he did recover, she asked him to quit or take a safer assignment. He said he was very close to catching the drug lord and he couldn't quit until he had done so. Karen knows that there will just be another drug lord after that. We find out that Gail arranged for the GH internship for Karen w/o asking Karen. Gail gives her two rules. Rule 1 -- never trust what the other woman says. Rule 2 -- trust your husband until you know otherwise. They launch into another discussion of Joe. Karen confides abot the kiss. Karen says she's crazy about Joe but she still loves her husband. She's not going to take advantage of Joe until she has it all figured out. Frank recommends to Joe that he have a heart to heart with karen, preferably in a romantic setting. Joe declines the idea, saying that Karen loves Jagger. Eve asks why Bennett is here. Julie tells her that Mom was worried and Bennett was checking to see whether Julie was malnourished. Bennett cracks that malnutrition is unlikely with a good cook like Eve. Eve retorts that she's on a budget now. Bennett sends Julie off to the baseball game and stays behind under the guise of making a phone call. After Julie leaves, Eve snipes "what a touching reunion." Bennett responds "Mine and Julie's or mine and yours?" (I guess this is supposed to be a shocking disclosure but I can't believe there's anyone who hasn't figured it out yet.) Eve asks: "OK, Ben, how do you want to play this?" Gail asks Karen whether she would take Jagger back if she found out that Fran was lying. Karen says yes, but she would want to go back to the way it was before the undercover cop stuff. She picks up her fortune cookie and starts to read it and then stops. She leaves and Gail reads the fortune cookie. "To find love. look no further than your oldest friend." Cut to the bar, Joe comments that at least he's Karen's "oldest friend." (The sledgehammer for those who weren't paying attention to the 10 year old friends story.) Julie arrives at the bar and tells Frank that her Dad is there. Ben tells Eve that he finds melodramatics dull. Eve: "And boring you is the worst sin of all." After more bickering, he tells her to tell Julie nothing. Eve tells him to back off; for the first time she's holding all the cards; his ex-mistress is living with his daughter. On that shocking revelation (was there anyone who hadn't guessed?), we end the show and this update. Justene 1/2 of the Tuesday update team
