Murray) Subject: PC: Friday Update - 9/12/97 Date: 15 Sep 1997 04:46:36 GMT Port Charles - Friday Update - September 12th 1997 (posted and e-mailed) PORT CHARLES - IN YOUR DREAMS This week Joe had a nightmare. Submitted for your approval; the dreams, the terrifying nightmares, of the denizens of The Port Charles Zone. Matt comes into the Interns' lounge where Ellen is getting ready to leave for the night. Matt gives her the envelope that contains items that were seized from Cooper's room. Matt advises her to examine the contents right away, because the lawyers are meeting tomorrow. She reads the chart. Joe has given Karen a ride to her apartment. She insist that he stay for coffee, because he nodded off at the stop signs. He plops down in the chair. Karen starts to tell Joe about what happened in San Francisco. At the hospital Lucy is at the nurses' station on the phone to Gail. Kevin is looking at Victor's chart. He hands it back to the Nurse and tells her to see if the lab can hurry the results. She says "Sure, Dr. Collins," and then corrects herself, "Mr. Collins." Lucy is still on the phone, which a nurse is trying to get back from her. Lucy's getting more details from Gail about Serena's first day at school. As the nurse wrests the phone away, Lucy finally says good-bye. Kevin comments on the large number of people interested in Serena's first day of school. Lucy wonders where Scott is. ******* [Kevin dozes off during Lucy's phone call. He dreams he is at the Lighthouse. He is sending little Lucy Jr. and Kevin Jr. off to their first day of school. He is vaguely aware that Scott and Serena are still living with him. He looks at little Kevin Jr., who oddly looks a lot like Scott. "Daddy, I'm stopping at Pepe's on the way home and getting a buzz-cut." Kevin wakes up in a cold sweat.] ******* Scott lurks at the Airport and watches Danielle as the flight to New York is announced. Danielle sees Scott reflected in the window. She goes over immediately to talk to him. She asks if he's making sure she leaves. He is. She says she doesn't blame him for not believing her. Danielle can see that Scott is a great father. He asks her how she would know since she's only seen him with Serena once or twice. Danielle insists she wouldn't hurt Serena. Scott asks why she cares. Danielle says she knows what it's like to have one parent. Scott tries to get her to admit that Rex was behind everything. Danielle won't, but just before she gets on the plane she tells Scott that Jake had nothing to do with it. ******* [On the plane Danielle soon falls asleep. She dreams, in black and white, that she is on a plane and flying away from her love Jake because Rex made her lie about being Serena's mother.] ******* Jake approaches Lucy and Kevin at the sixth floor waiting area. He hasn't seen them since Danielle dropped the mommy bombshell. Lucy wants to know if he knows Danielle was lying. Jake tells them that Danielle has left town and signed a quit claim. He hopes this makes them feel better. Lucy thinks it's wonderful. Kevin is glad it's over. Jake agrees that it's over, but he's referring to himself and Danielle. Lucy catches that and tells Jake that Danielle really loved him. He starts to walk away and Kevin asks him to consult on his father's case. Jake says he's busy concentrating on surgical rotation. Jake leaves and Lucy points out that Danielle has left town and Jake has a broken heart and that's two more reasons they should nail Rex. ******** [On a quick break in the Intern's lounge Jake takes a nap and dreams that he is in a spooky castle in Transylvania. He is standing by a table and on it is a figure covered in a white sheet. Jake is filled with a sense of anticipation as he flips a large switch. Electricity seems to fill the air and lightning shoots down from the huge skylight above. The supine figure is bathed in sparks. He pulls off the sheet. Danielle sits up, her dark hair, streaked with two white blazes, is piled up on her head. She stares at him without expression. "Do you love me?" he asked her. "Yes." she said. Then she throws back her head and laughs evilly. "No, I don't." Then sweetly, "Maybe, I do." Jake is filled with a sense of despair as he realizes the experiment has failed.] ******* Karen pours a cup of coffee and says she doesn't want to put Joe in the middle. She goes on a while about things being bad between her and Jagger and wanting to be honest with Joe. She asks him if he understands. There is no reply. Joe has fallen asleep in the armchair. She puts his feet up and covers him with an Afghan. She listens to her phone messages and folds her bed out from the couch. She begins to undress. Matt reads the list of the envelope's contents. Ellen points out that there is nothing here not accounted for by the normal procedures. Matt points out that there's an extra pair of gloves. Matt thinks that Cooper had to give himself the injection and then toss the needle. "So where is it?" Ellen asks. She is discouraged and wonders if Cooper really did have a seizure. Matt tells her not to give up. He never has despite being constantly told to. He says that things look different from his perspective. This gives him an idea. Things would have looked different from Cooper's perspective too. He leads Ellen out of the room. Karen lays down to sleep. In the armchair Joe starts to dream. (His dreams have a kind of orange haze.) He is looking through the glass panes of Karen's back door. Karen is arguing with Jagger or some other man. (Whom Joe cannot see clearly.) Karen is insisting that the man did something and he is saying he didn't. He grabs her by the shoulders and begins pushing her towards the door. She cries out for Joe. Joe tries, but cannot get the door to open. "Joe, help me, please!" Karen says in a distorted voice. Joe starts calling out to Karen in his sleep. This wakes Karen up. ******** [(Her dreams have a kind of green haze.) She is looking through the window on the back door of the Scanlon house. Joe is arguing with Nurse Grace, or some other woman. (Whom Karen can't see clearly.) Joe is insisting the woman do something. And she is saying she won't. She grabs him by the shoulders and pushes him towards the basement door. Joe cries out for Karen. Karen tries, but cannot get the door to open. "Karen, help me, please!" Joe says in a distorted voice. She wakes up to hear him still crying her name.] ******* The security guard explains to Ellen and Matt that no one's been in Cooper's room since he left, because of a lawsuit. When Matt drops Lee Baldwin's name the guard lets them in the room. Matt quickly finds a slit in the mattress. Ellen and the guard watch as Matt pulls out the hypodermic needle. He points out that it's the right gauge to inject insulin. He asks Ellen if she wants to give up now. ******* [Before Ellen and Matt arrived and woke him up the security guard had been napping. It is dark in his dream, and he thinks maybe the lights in the hospital have gone out again. He is looking for something. He has looked everywhere for it, even the morgue, and he can't find it. He turns a corner, and sees it sitting in the middle of the operating table... A Jelly Donut. Reverently he picks up a scalpel.] ******* The nurse tells Kevin that Victor is back in his room. Kevin wants to explain to Victor why he's having him transferred. He also wants to drop off something to Ellen. Lucy will wait. Scott gets off the elevator. Kevin tells Scott they heard from Jake about Scott's activities. Kevin leaves. Scott tells Lucy Danielle left town and is exasperated that Lucy already seems to have the rest of the story. Since Danielle signed away her rights to Serena he's convinced she's merely working for Rex. Lucy is happy it's over, but Scott doesn't think it is. Karen wakes Joe up from his nightmare. He hugs her and says he was scared. She tells him it's okay and they begin to kiss. Ellen, back in the interns' lounge with Matt, is on the phone telling Lee what happened. She hangs up and tells Matt, that Lee is thrilled. Lee thinks they can get Cooper's lawyers to turn tail and run. "By this time tomorrow this nightmare should be over." She thinks Matt must be thinking, "I told you so," but he says he was thinking that her face was very pretty when she was happy. Kevin comes in and gives Ellen a psych profile on Cooper. She says she's grateful to have such great friends when she needs them. Ellen tells him that Matt found evidence that could prove Cooper poisoned himself. Kevin's glad that there may be a happy ending. Matt is relieved that Cooper won't be able to hurt anyone else. ******* [Later that night Ellen has a disturbing dream. She is in the Interns' lounge. She is feeling very happy. Matt comes in the room. She thanks him for helping her. "How did you do it?" she asks him. He smiles. "Don't you know. I did it for you. I injected the IV with insulin. I hid the needle. " He moves closer to her. "You were all so slow. You wouldn't suspect Cooper. I had to tell you. I had to lead you to the evidence. I had to go into the room and show you where I'd hidden the needle." Her mouth drops open. Matt grins evilly. "You're so pretty when you're in shock." She backs away from him. He pulls off the surgical gloves, slowly and deliberately. "Is there anyone else I can take care of for you?"] ******* Cooper is in bed. A nurse has just given him a sponge bath. When her back is turned he opens his eyes. ******* [Before opening his eyes Cooper was having a nice dream. All the Interns are gathered at a party. In his hands is a box marked ACME. He pulls a large bomb from the case. It looks like a cartoon bomb, the little wick is alight. The Interns are ignoring him. He hands the bomb to Joe Scanlon and tells him to pass it on. Joe wonders if you can operate with one of these. He hands it to Eve, who throws it to Chris. Chris to give it to Karen, who is busy stripping. While he is watching her the bomb goes off. Bits of interns are everywhere.] ******* Lucy tells Scotty that it looks like Kevin will be late, and Scott has business at the hospital, so she'll be going home to look after Serena. She tells Scott to cut Jake some slack. Then she wonders if Danielle and Rex both being out of town is coincidence, or if they planned to hook up. Scott doesn't think so. Danielle was nervous and wanted to make a clean break. Again Lucy says it's all over, and Scott thinks that would be too easy. The Nurse answers the phone and tells Jake it's for him. Rex is on the other end. "So about that DNA research you're going to do for me," Rex says casually. "Are you ready to talk turkey." Jake is silent.
