PORT CHARLES - THE ROMANCE TOP TEN

The Top Ten Romantic Mistakes In Port Charles

Julie asks Frank who he knows in Chicago who might have offered
him this job. He denies knowing anyone there. They called out
of the blue and offered him the job as athletic director. Can't
figure out why. Bennett steps out of the elevator. Julie says
she doesn't care who. She congratulates him. Frank sighs.

10) Making up fake camping stories

Lucy opens the door to Kevin's hospital room and peeks in
to see if the coast is clear. She doesn't see him, so she drags
in a short woman in dark glasses and a black dress, Tina "If you
don't like the new lighthouse look, bite me" Chao. Tina
complains about working under these conditions. Lucy pulls
out her checkbook, and Tina says there isn't enough money
in the world. Lucy scowls. She thought they were friends.
Now get to work. There isn't much time. Kevin comes out
of the bathroom and asks "Time for what?"

 9) Celadon

Rex is in conference with his lawyer, Byron "I made that name up"
Rollins. Rex is planning to sue Scott for custody of Serena.
He pretends to be concerned about Serena's welfare. The
lawyer says Rex has a case, being a blood relative and capable
of supporting her. But what they need is compelling evidence of
abuse or neglect by Scott. Rex assures him the evidence exists.

At the lighthouse Scott is about to lick the fatal envelope when
the doorbell rings. Eve is at the door. She asks Scott for a favor...
another one. He hopes she's keeping count. She says he knows
something about her that no one else knows (Except Chris and
Bennett and...) and they should keep it between them.

 8) Believing that old "I'll divorce my wife" line

Scott tells Eve that his knowledge of her is sketchy. She spells it
out. He knows that she was out with an old flame the other night
and he figured out it was Bennett Devlin. He won't tell even
though he does want to punch Devlin in the nose every time he
sees him. Who does he think he is? Eve tells him it took a long
time to figure out what kind of man she was dealing with but
that Scott pegged Bennett in two minutes. Scott says he's a
good judge of character. "Lucky me," says Eve.

 7) Having a pick-up truck instead of a Rolls-Royce

Rex's lawyer tells him that the burden of proof is on the plaintiff.
They have to prove Scott is a bad father. Rollins asks Rex if
he's pursuing the case on behalf of the mother. Rex says that
unfortunately the mother, Dominique is dead. Rex says that
Scott never recovered from her death, and had an unsavory
reputation before he married her. He says that Scott had used
a child before to get money, and covers the Jason situation.
He plays the tape of the babysitter, where she claims that Scott
was after Jason's trust fund. The lawyer is impressed and thinks
that Rex would be a suitable guardian. Rex says he wants
custody to go to the biological mother. He tells Rollins the
tale of Dom going to Danielle (what was she twelve?) and getting
an egg from her for in vitro fertilization. The lawyer asks if Dom
was worth a lot of money. Rex says she was worth a hundred
million. Again the lawyer is impressed.

Lucy asks what Kevin is doing there. Kevin picks up the clipboard
by his bed. "Collins, Kevin, Subdural hematoma. That's me."
She says he is supposed to be out having tests done. Kevin asks
if she isn't going to introduce him to her friend. "No." But she
does. She says that the woman is her business associate Tina
Chao. Tina is a brilliant banking business associate. Tina tries to
make her escape, and says that she's going to the cafeteria to eat.
When she leaves Kevin recalls that Tina was the one who helped
Lucy renovate the Lighthouse and now she's gone into banking.
She's versatile Lucy claims. Lucy tells Kevin to do well on the
tests and she leaves.

 6) Letting your evil twin brother switch places with you

When Lucy leaves the room Bennett is just outside. She thanks
him again for doing Kevin's surgery. He's recovering very fast.
Lucy hesitantly asks when she and Kevin can resume almost
marital relations. You mean, "Sex?" Bennett asks. (Not being
sure what marriage has to do with it.) Lucy recalls that Audrey
had a long difficult recovery after a similar operation. Bennett
says the circumstances were different. (Yeah, no power tools
were involved.) He suggests that Lucy "be gentle" with Kevin.
Tina walks up and Lucy grabs her by the arm and hurries away
down the hall. Bennett goes into Kevin's room.

 5) Rough sex immediately following brain surgery

Julie speculates that the Chicago paper must have picked up
Frank's story off the wire service. (Try checking the by-line
Julie.) Frank thinks it must have been a slow news day.
Julie says he's always putting his welfare before others, and
that it's nice it's gotten him this Athletic Director job offer.
He asks why he should leave. And she's says it's an opportunity
to do something for himself for a change. He asks if she wants
him to go and she says she doesn't want to lay a guilt trip on
him to stay. She won't be an obstacle to his dreams. He says
that athletics was never his dream. He wanted to be a Doctor.
And when that opportunity passed him by, he helped Joe
become a Doctor. He likes his life here. He likes it even better
with her there. She's stuck with him.

 4) Too much damn self-sacrifice

Lucy and Tina bring paintings into Kevin's room. Lucy says
Grace is going to keep Kevin occupied after he's done with
his tests, to give them more time. Nevertheless Tina is not
optimistic about the decorating possibilities. She's not a
miracle worker. Lucy says Tina is, and can work magic. The
room is calling to her. "Tina make me beautiful. Fix me up.
Do it for Lucy, do it for Kevin, do it for your portfolio, do it
for the money." Tina brightens up. "The muse has spoken."
Tina begins to direct her two guys where to hang the paintings.

 3) Letting your ex-lover live with you and your fiancee

Eve tells Scott that she knows she promised not to try to return
favors, but if he ever needs anything... As a matter of fact he does.
She jokingly asks if he wants her to wash his truck. No, he wants
two things. 1) No more meaningful conversations. And 2) Make
sure you get the chrome. She laughs. No, the second is mailing
a letter for him. He licks the envelope for Serena's permission slip,
seals it and hands it to Eve, along with some other letters. (Did
he lick all of them? He may never come down.)

Grace brings Kevin back to his room, but tries to get him to go
for one more walk to the nurses station and back. "How many
times have we taken that walk?" Kevin grumbles."Why don't you
try it with a hole in your head." Kevin walks into the room and is
awed by its changed appearance. "Enjoy your stay," Nurse Grace
says perkily. He goes in letting the door close behind him. There
are candles everywhere, paintings on the wall, some nice furniture
and champagne by the bed. He picks up the burgundy robe lying
on the bed, and calls for Lucy. She is in the bathroom reclining in
a bubble bath. She tells him to follow the rose petals to the bathroom.
He picks some up and says she's outdone herself. He tries to open
the bathroom door, but it's locked. He tells her to get out of the
tub and unlock the door. She objects, "I wanted you to discover
me," but agrees. He waits outside, but she doesn't come to the
door. "Lucy?" She squeals and tells him she's stuck. Her toe
has become wedged in the faucet. Kevin laughs. "Don't say
anything more. My head hurts when I laugh." She tells him to stop
laughing and get her out. He laughs some more.

2) Kevin and Lucy and open flames

Frank and Julie are still talking about what an unselfish guy Frank
is, when Eve gets off the elevator. Julie says she doesn't want to
be what gets in the way of his opportunity. He says she isn't.
He doesn't want the job, especially if it means leaving her. Eve
asks what's up. They tell her about the job offer. Bennett, who
is behind Eve asks, "When do you start?" Frank says he's not
taking it. Eve says "Good, I'd hate to lose our favorite slum
lord." Frank takes that as an almost compliment. Frank and Julie
go off for a cup of coffee. Eve tells Bennett she knows he was
behind the job offer. They had a deal. He's supposed to leave
Frank and Julie alone. He says he's leaving town. She knows
he doesn't have to be present to do damage. He regrets he's
given her that impression. (That accurate impression.) He gets
back on that elevator.

Rex asks if he has a good case. Rollins says he'll look over
the notes, but he doesn't sound very hopeful. Scott is a
lawyer and a very good one. Rex reminds him that the case
is worth a hundred million, that translates into a hefty fee.
He lists Scott's supposed crimes again, but adds "drug user"
to the end. Rollins jumps on that. Rex says Scott is "no
stranger to recreational drugs." Scott was hiding it but it was
only a matter of time before it came out. Now Rollins thinks
the case is winnable. Rex thinks Rollins is going to make partner.

Scott is sitting at the table, and is beginning to feel a little
funny. He gets up, staggers and catches himself before he
falls. The phone is ringing and he goes to answer it, but the
room is waving and he finds it difficult to focus on the little
white phone. He passes it and collapses on the couch. A
woman appears before him, though we only see her back.
She is dressed in something like a negligee. Despite this, Scott
doesn't seem thrilled to see her. "What are you doing here?"
He asks.

And the number one romantic mistake in Port Charles:
 1) Hallucinating that you have a lover
