'PSYCHO,' SHOWING NOW IN THEATER 4
----------------------------------
Rex is on the phone at his house as Jake watches him. Rex is actually
listening to a movie theater's prerecorded message providing show times,
but he pretends to be talking to his banker. He hangs up and tells Jake
that it will take 24 hours to get the money Jake has demanded to set up
his research lab. Jake leaves; Rex shakes his head, smiling, and
remarks (in relation to something Jake said on yesterday's show),
"Personal check. Right. Like I'm going to let them find me at the end
of ANY paper trail."

LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DOMINIQUE
------------------------------
Scott, still in mid-hallucination brought on by Rex's drug, is at the
Lighthouse. Rhonda brings him a pitcher of water; Scott sees goldfish
swimming in the pitcher, and he drops it on the floor. Rhonda urges
Scott to sit back and relax; he can't, because the walls are breathing.
(I hate it when that happens.)

Meanwhile, Serena and Eve are still at the park. Serena wants to know
what is wrong with her father. Eve explains that he's just "under the
weather." Scott will be fine, but it would be best for Serena to spend
the night with Lee and Gail. Serena wants to go see Scott first, but
Eve suggests that they make a get-well card for him instead after they
get to Lee and Gail's. Serena likes this idea - she'll draw Mommy's
star.

Lucy, fresh from her interrupted tryst with Kevin at the hospital,
arrives home. Scott sees her through a haze, and mistakes her for
Dominique. He throws his arms around Lucy, calling her 'Dominique' and
whispering, "You came back." Lucy, frightened, tries to convince Scott
that she isn't Dom, but he continues to call her 'Dominique' and to
reach out for her lovingly. Lucy and Rhonda get Scott over to the
couch; he begins to tell 'Dom' about Serena, and then he begins to kiss
Lucy. When this happens, she screams, "Scott!" She finally manages to
get his attention; he looks at her and recognizes who she is at last.
He begins to shout that he saw Dominique; Rhonda and Lucy restrain him
when he tries to get up off the couch to look for Dom.

Scott fights to clear his head while Lucy tells Rhonda to call a doctor.
Scott explains that he's seen a doctor - Eve. Eve rushes into the
Lighthouse carrying her medical bag. She pushes Lucy aside and begins
to examine Scott, after assuring him that Serena is fine. Lucy insists
that Scott needs to go to the hospital. Eve agrees with Lucy, but Scott
refuses. He continues to worry about Serena - she needs her things for
the night. Eve suggests that Lucy ought to call Serena. Lucy bristles
at the idea that she'd forget to do that, but Rhonda suggests that they
do it now before it gets late.

Scott asks Eve what's wrong with him - it must be something serious.
She agrees, and says he needs to see a doctor. He reminds her that she
is a doctor; she counters by telling him he needs to go to the hospital
for some tests. He refuses: the hallucinations have stopped. Eve
points out that they won't know what caused them without tests. Scott
figures someone may have slipped him something - or maybe it was a bad
fish stick. Eve has to go back to the hospital; she gives Scott one
more chance to agree to go with her, but he won't.

Lucy and Rhonda return with a bag packed for Serena. Before Rhonda can
leave to deliver Serena's things, Scott stops her. He wants all three
women to promise not to tell anyone what happened. Eve insists she has
to tell his doctor. "You're my doctor," he responds, and he forces her
to agree. Rhonda agrees readily. Lucy refuses - she won't make any
promises about something she doesn't understand. They begin to yell at
each other, and she finally agrees.

Outside, Rex sits on the bench by the duck pond, watching the scene
through binoculars. (Gee, where's a good watch-duck when you need one?)
"And now," he chortles, "the real fun begins."

DO ALL DOCTORS HANG OUT AT BARS THIS MUCH?
------------------------------------------
At the Recovery Room, Frank explains to Julie that he has turned down
the interview for the Athletic Director job in Chicago. There are too
many people in Port Charles he'd miss. Julie simpers at this remark.
Joe arrives and tells Frank that Mr. Dorsey, the recruiter from Colson
College, is on his way to Port Charles to meet with Frank.

Frank can't believe Dorsey is on his way after Frank turned down the
job; Julie and Joe point out how flattering this is. Julie tells Frank
he's already proved what a good job he would do; Frank retorts that his
experience is limited to coaching little league. Julie figures the only
difference is the height of the athletes.

Joe begs for season tickets; Mike overhears and asks for an explanation.
Once Mike hears about the job offer, he wants season tickets too. (I
guess this Colson College - named after Charles Colson, perhaps? - has
quite a football program if these guys intend to fly to Chicago for
every home game.) Joe upgrades his request to 50-yard-line seats, and
Frank threatens to put him in the end zone. Joe takes this as an
indication that Frank is considering the job - Frank says since Dorsey
is flying in, he'll talk to him.

Karen arrives, and Julie sits with her and asks if she's okay. Karen is
furious. Who's she mad at? Chris Ramsey, Rhonda, herself, the world,
Jagger.... Jagger betrayed her, and they used to stand for loyalty,
belief in each other. His affair with Fran bothers Karen the most
because it went on for such a long time - and especially because Jagger
talked to Fran about Karen. He didn't even call her on the phone after
the hostage situation; then, when she flew to San Francisco, he didn't
even bother to meet her. And when she tried to confront him about Fran
- via e-mail, of all things - he didn't even apologize.

Joe and Mike encourage Frank to take the job offer seriously. Frank
doesn't want to leave Port Charles; Joe says it's because of Julie.
Frank doesn't confirm this, but he admits he doesn't think Julie wants
him to take it. (We interrupt this update for a brief Updater Rant:
When did Julie and Frank's relationship become a Great Love of the Ages?
Off-screen, perhaps? I like them, but if we're supposed to feel
invested in this relationship at this point.... sorry, no dice.) Joe
calls Julie over, and she joins with Joe in encouraging Frank to
consider the job. They badger him into agreeing to at least listen to
what the recruiter has to say.

Joe asks Julie how Karen is (why doesn't he ask HER? She's sitting
about fifteen feet away). Julie explains that she's admitting her anger
at Jagger. Joe sympathizes - he thinks it's cruel that Jagger told her
about Fran in a letter. He proceeds to tell Julie about Chris taking
the letter from Karen's coat pocket and reading it, and then telling
Ellen about it. Julie defends Chris; Frank figures it sounds exactly
like Chris.

Speaking of Chris, we see him at the hospital sucking up to Boardman and
Bennett Devlin. Devlin gets a phone call - it's Dorsey, the recruiter
from Colson College, calling him from the airplane. Dorsey thanks
Devlin for his generous contribution to the school's athletic fund;
Devlin tells him to get Frank's signature on a long-term contract with
the college.

LIKE A SURGEON
--------------
Ellen comes off the elevator at the hospital to find Matt sitting in the
lobby, looking grave. He explains that he's on "stake-out." Ellen is
surprised he has the time to "moonlight for the PCPD." Matt has the
LOD: "I'm not auditioning for the next Ironside." He's waiting to talk
to Boardman. He's tired of being ignored by Boardman, and so he has
prepared a packet of information about special equipment available which
would make it possible for Matt to perform surgery.

Boardman comes off the elevator; Matt accosts him. Boardman tries to
put him off, but Matt insists - if Boardman won't talk to him now, Matt
will go to Dr. Quartermaine. This gets Boardman's attention, and they
go to the OCR together. Matt tells Boardman he doesn't feel he's being
trained as aggressively as the other interns; Boardman claims that
Matt's physical limitations are the reason. Matt expected to hear that,
and he hands Boardman the package of information, explaining the
different alternatives. Boardman says, yeah, in a perfect world there
would be solutions to problems, but this is the real world. (Ummm....
those brochures are showing real-world solutions, so what does that have
to do with ANYTHING, babe? But never mind.) Boardman explains that his
warm, feeling heart is full of sympathy - and Matt stops him angrily.
He doesn't want pity, and he doesn't need it. When Boardman looks at
him, he sees a man with physical limitations. When Matt looks at
himself, he sees a doctor with unlimited potential. Boardman agrees to
look at the material - "when I have the time" (which ought to be some
time in the next millenium). Matt thanks him and leaves.

Ellen arrives and thanks Boardman for giving Matt a chance: he won't be
sorry he helped Matt. Boardman corrects her - he didn't say he'd help
Matt, he just said he'd read the material. Boardman figures Matt got a
lucky break even getting into the program. Ellen defends Matt - he
graduated at the top of his med school class. Boardman doesn't "have
time to take on charity cases." Ellen believes that with some support,
Matt could become a brilliant surgeon. Boardman disagrees. (We
interrupt this update for yet another rant. Matt should be given the
chance to do whatever he wants to do, the same as anyone else, but WHY
do all the interns other than Jake want to be surgeons? There are many,
many other medical specialties, and considering the role models they've
seen so far in Boardman and Devlin, it's hard to imagine that every
single one of them would be so set on specializing in surgery.)

Later, at the Recovery Room, Matt tells Karen about his conversation
with Boardman. Ellen arrives and tells him not to count on Boardman's
support. Matt wasn't expecting anything - he knows he has a lot more
work to do. Matt offers Ellen some dinner, but she says she has
paperwork to do, and she leaves. Matt then says goodnight to Karen and
heads to his room.
