Port Charles - Friday Update - October 17th 1997
(posted and e-mailed)

PORT CHARLES - ANOTHER LATE UPDATE

Scott and Eve are walking down the hospital corridor. Scott
thought his test would be positive for drugs. He asks Eve
what specific drug it was. She's says they'll need another
test. She asks if he still thinks he was drugged. Of course,
and he knows who did it. He gets on the elevator. She asks
him where he's going. "To get some answers."

In Jake's apartment Rex is delighted that of all the Doctor's in
Port Charles Scott has picked Jake to do his blood test. With
relish Rex imagines using the evidence in court. He pretends
to be the plaintiff's attorney, questioning first Eve and then
Jake. Jake is less than impressed with Rex' eccentric performance.
Rex tells Jake to get on with the testing so they'll know what
drug Scott is taking, and might as well get started on the DNA
work while he's at it. "Do you want me to cook you dinner while
I'm at it?" Jake asks sarcastically. Rex makes a comment about
disgruntled employees. He tries to impress Jake with the
wonderful wickedness of his evil plan. Rex leaves.

Karen and Joe are outside the patient's room. Joe points out that
the handwriting on the chart isn't his. Chris retorts that it's not
his writing either. Karen says he could have disguised his
handwriting. Chris tries to explain how he was paged to come
to the room, but doesn't know by whom. Joe says he's lying.
Chris is getting tired of their conspiracy theories. Cooper lurks
around a nearby corner.

Eve prevents Scott from leaving and they continue to discuss
his problem. Eve wants to help him find the answers. She asks
him to go over everything he ate. He mentions the fish sticks
still being in question. She says certain things could throw the
tests off including some over the counter medicines and poppy
seeds. Scott sarcastically suggests that he and Serena were making
muffins and she added too many poppy seeds. (Poppies, poppies,
poppies.) She asks who would want to drug him. (Does she want
that list alphabetical or chronological.) Scott thinks her friend Jake
knows since he hangs around with the top suspects Rex and
Danielle. Eve says Scott can't accuse Jake without evidence. (Why
not? Everyone else does it.) Scott has a gut feeling and he's going to
go with that. He gets on the elevator.

Matt and Ellen are in the interns room. Ellen wants to know what
Matt did to make Boardman angry. Matt says that Boardman is
a narrow minded idiot, and he told him so. Ellen tells him that he's
committing career suicide. (What's Boardman gonna do cut him from
the surgical rotation twice.) Matt is unwilling to accept Boardman's
judgement. What give's him the right to decide Matt's future?
Ellen points out that Boardman is Chief Surgical Resident. Matt
doesn't care. Ellen tells him he can't buck the system. (Silly thing
to say.) He tells her not to bet on that because he's an expert at
it. (We'll take a piece of that. 100 Internet credits say, Matt gets
to perform surgery. Another fifty says he gets that Quartermaine
fellowship.) He gives her a comprehensive lecture on the history
of the fight for handicapped accessibility. Matt won't stop fighting.
He's not done fighting by a long shot.

Chris, Karen and Joe are still arguing in the hall with Cooper
sniggering around the corner. Julie joins them and asks what's
going on. Karen and Joe indulge in their conspiracy fantasy
and tell her Chris altered the chart. Boardman interrupts. Joe
tells him that Chris altered the chart. Chris starts to deny their
allegations. Boardman tells him he'll have his turn. Joe goes
into details about what he thinks happened, and Karen supports
him. Boardman doesn't care who did what to whom, he wants
them to stop arguing and get to Dr. Devlin's Farewell Address.
(We pictured a large auditorium, a podium and a microphone,
and refreshments afterwards. Imagine our disappointment when...)

Karen and Joe, somehow much slower than Chris and Julie, arrive
in the interns lounge just as Bennett is beginning his speech. It
is an almost sincerely delivered speech about how wonderful it
is to be a Doctor and what good Doctors they would all make.
Julie is touched. Chris is touched. Karen and Joe are touched.
Even Eve falls for it. (And later she'll be touched.) Jake "I don't
need this hospital" Marshak wasn't even there.

Scotty barges into Jake's apartment. He demands to know where
Rex is. Jake doesn't know. Scott threatens Jake with prosecution
for the dimwitted duos criminal escapades. Cut to Rex back at his
own home listening to the conversation via his bug in the lamp.
He congratulates himself on drugging Scott and fondly flashes back
to putting funny stuff on Scott's envelopes.

Gail is at the lighthouse looking after Serena. They are making
invitations to a Halloween Party. They go over the invite to make
sure it's correct and then decide to decorate them with stickers.
Serena nixes the pumpkins because they're not scary enough. They
settle on witches, ghosts, black cats and skeletons. Gail notices
that they have no ENVELOPES. Serena says that there are
ENVELOPES in her daddy's briefcase. Gail wonders if Scott
wants her to use them and Serena insists that she and Daddy share
everything. She begins sorting the ENVELOPES.

Chris and Julie are in the hospital lobby on the sixth floor. Chris
explains to Julie that he didn't change that chart and if he had he
wouldn't have been stupid enough to get caught. He confesses that
he feels he's being blamed for every bad thing that happens. Julie
half-heartedly supports him, saying that she's keeping an open mind
about his guilt. He asks how he's supposed to prove a negative.
"If not you then who?" Julie asks. Chris is suddenly struck with
new-writer-induced brilliance. "Wait a minute, I am an idiot."
(That's not the brilliant part.) Julie doesn't get it yet, but comes
along as Chris walks over to Joe and Karen (Mr. and Mrs.
Self-righteous.) Joe and Karen reflexively start to snipe at Chris.
They don't want to hear any more of his lies. Julie suggests that
they hear him out. Chris speaks softly and reasonably, starting with
an apology for yelling at them earlier. Their coming at him like
that had made him angry. They ask what he expected them to do.
"Exactly what you did," says Chris, starting to get to the point.
"That was the whole point of it." Karen and Joe are starting to
get his drift, but are still puzzled. Chris proposes that all three of
them were set up by a third party. He wonders who will be the next
victim. Joe finally believes Chris and wonders whose behind it.
Behind it and them. Cooper directly in back of Joe, lurks at the
water fountain.

Matt is at the bottom of the stairwell. Boardman comes down the
stairs, and hails Matt. Matt sarcastically asks if Boardman has
changed his mind about cutting him from the surgical rotation.
Boardman gives him his new assignment... clerical work. Matt
is insulted. (Matt is angry. Matt is going to kick butt. Boardman
should see if there's an opening at Mercy.)

Bennett walks in to the intern's lounge. Eve is dressed in her
favorite off-duty wear... a towel. She tells him she liked his speech
though it was a little bit long-winded. He tells her that speech was
just for her, and she doesn't quite buy that BS. He regards her
as a colleague and a good Doctor. She says that means a lot coming
from him and recalls the first time she heard him lecture. He comes
on with the cheesy line, "I saw you and I felt like I was hit by a
thunderbolt." He remembers the past fondly and wishes she did.
He gives her a peck on the cheek that turns into a lip lock. Julie
walks in at that moment and is hit by her own thunderbolt.

Gail and Serena are still working on putting the stickers on the
invitations. The ENVELOPES are lying around looking ominous.
Gail suggests that Serena put the papers in the ENVELOPES.
Serena folds up one sheet and puts it in the ENVELOPE. In slow-
mo she raises it to her tongue in preparation to lick the ENVELOPE.
